PURPOSE
To provide students the opportunity to practice leadership skills and report out on the successes of the Silver Creek High School to the Board of Education.
BACKGROUND
The Student Advisory Council is comprised of 4-5 high school students from each of our high schools that were chosen by teachers and administrators. The Student Advisory Council was started by Don Haddad eleven years ago so that students could give input to the superintendents about what students were feeling about the District. 5.2

PURPOSE
To provide the Board of Education with information relative to the local high school scholarships awarded to 2016-2017 District graduates.
BACKGROUND
Annually, a list of local scholarships is sent to district high schools to be distributed to graduating seniors. The sponsors of these scholarships range from civic organizations and local businesses to families who have set up scholarships in memory of loved ones. These awards are substantial and the generosity of this community is commendable. Students were awarded a total of $908,475 in local scholarships and awards. RECOMMENDATION
That the Board of Education approve Brian Lamer, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, to proceed with negotiations for a Lease Agreement for the APEX Home School Program.
BACKGROUND
APEX has been located at several churches in the area over the past 8 years. As discussed at the Board of Education Study Session on October 18, 2017, it is in the District’s best interest to enter into negotiations for a lease agreement to provide a facility for the APEX Home School Program.

RECOMMENDATION
That the Board of Education approve the contract with DLR Group Inc., for $155,000 including contingency for the design of the Career Development Center Renovation Project, and further authorize Brian Lamer, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, to sign contract documents and initiate scope changes in accordance with Board of Education policy.
BACKGROUND
The architect review committee reviewed responses to RFQ 2017-037 "Architectural Services for District Projects." DLR Group Inc., was selected based on their experience, proposed team, cost, and availability.
The project design is funded in the 2016 Bond program.

SUBJECT: Approval of Waiver of Board Policy KF – Community Use of School Facilities
RECOMMENDATION
That the Board of Education allow an exception to Board Policy KF – Community Use of School Facilities and, thereby, approve a waiver of fees for the 3rd Annual Red Thread Bazaar (international craft fair) on December 2, 2017 at Central Elementary.
BACKGROUND
Board Policy KF – Community Use of School Facilities states that “The separate fee structure for user groups shall ensure that the District will spend its money directly on the education of youth while promoting community use of District facilities and community involvement in the schools.”
Central Elementary would ask that the fees be waived and that vendors would make a donation of $25 (non-Central vendor) or $15 (Central family vendor) to Central Elementary. Central will be keeping half of the fees for their school and/or use to offset any expenses (advertising, etc.) related to the event, and the other half will be donated to the 2017 Hurricane Relief Efforts.
Central Elementary is hoping to build and foster community through the spirit of international-mindedness under the guide of our IB Primary Years Programme.

RECOMMENDATION
That the Board of Education allow an exception to the current Board Policy – Staff Ethics/Conflict of Interest. This exception would enable Faith Halverson-Ramos, a substitute teacher in the District, to provide part-time music therapy services to students at Main Street School.
BACKGROUND
Board Policy GBEA – Staff Ethics/Conflict of Interest, states, "No school district employee or firm owned by a school district employee shall be allowed to sell to the district or its schools or staff goods or services of any kind without express prior written consent of the Board of Education."
Faith Halverson-Ramos is an active licensed substitute teacher for St. Vrain Valley Schools. She is also a licensed music therapist employed by SoundWell Music Therapy, PLLC. In the role of music therapist, Faith will provide part-time music therapy services to students at Main Street School in grades kindergarten through 12th grade as an independent contractor.
Since Ms. Halverson-Ramos is a substitute teacher in the District and she also practices as a music therapist with SoundWell Music Therapy, PLLC, she is requesting a waiver from Board Policy GBEA so she can continue to deliver music therapy services to students at the Main Street School program, defined as an independent contractor with St. Vrain Valley Schools.
The administration recommends approval of this exception, which is estimated to be $9,240 for this school year.
