BACKGROUND The Student Advisory Council is comprised of 4-5 high school students from each of our high schools that were chosen by teachers and administrators. The Student Advisory Council was started by Don Haddad eleven years ago so that students could give input to the superintendents about what students were feeling about the District. 5.2 MEMORANDUM DATE: October 25, 2017 TO: Board of Education FROM: Dr. Don Haddad, Superintendent of Schools SUBJECT: Personal Financial Literacy Program Update PURPOSE To provide the Board of Education with an update on the Personal Financial Literacy high school course. BACKGROUND Administration would like to present to the Board the successes of the Personal Financial Literacy high school course. Kahle Charles, Executive Director of Curriculum, will be available for questions. 5.3 MEMORANDUM DATE: October 25, 2017 TO: Board of Education FROM: Dr. Don Haddad, Superintendent of Schools SUBJECT: High School Scholarships Awarded PURPOSE To provide the Board of Education with information relative to the local high school scholarships awarded to 2016-2017 District graduates. BACKGROUND Annually, a list of local scholarships is sent to district high schools to be distributed to graduating seniors. The sponsors of these scholarships range from civic organizations and local businesses to families who have set up scholarships in memory of loved ones. These awards are substantial and the generosity of this community is commendable. Students were awarded a total of $908,475 in local scholarships and awards. In addition, students were offered a total of $22,135,775 in scholarships and awards from colleges and universities across the country.
