  • THE IMPACT of the ARMENIAN GENOCIDE on the FORMATION of NATIONAL STATEHOOD and POLITICAL IDENTITY “Today Most Armenians Do
ASHOT ALEKSANYAN THE IMPACT OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE ON THE FORMATION OF NATIONAL STATEHOOD AND POLITICAL IDENTITY Key words – Armenian Genocide, pre-genocide, post-genocide, national statehood, Armenian statehood heritage, political identity, civiliarchic elite, civilization, civic culture, Armenian diaspora, Armenian civiliarchy “Today most Armenians do not live in the Republic of Armenia. Indeed, most Armenians have deep ties to the countries where they live. Like a lot of us, many Armenians find themselves balancing their role in their new country with their historical and cultural roots. How far should they assimilate into their new countries? Does Armenian history and culture have something to offer Armenians as they live their lives now? When do historical and cultural memories create self-imposed limits on individuals?”1 Introduction The relevance of this article is determined, on the one hand, the multidimen- sionality of issues related to understanding the role of statehood and the political and legal system in the development of Armenian civilization, civic culture and identity, on the other hand - the negative impact of the long absence of national system of public administration and the devastating impact of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 on the further development of the Armenian statehood and civiliarchy. Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey was the first ever large-scale crime against humanity and human values. Taking advantage of the beginning of World War I, the Turkish authorities have organized mass murder and deportations of Armenians from their historic homeland. Genocide divided the civiliarchy of the Armenian people in three parts: before the genocide (pre-genocide), during the genocide and after the genocide (post-genocide).

Michel, 11 – 15121 Alessandria, Italy (Received 1 November 2015) Abstract The manuscript of Edessa or ms. 3290, a XVIII century Armenian manuscript kept at Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna, has been thoroughly studied from the religious, artistic, historical and diagnostic point of view. Non-invasive measurements on the miniatures have been carried out in situ with portable instruments in order to evaluate the pictorial materials used to decorate this beautiful codex, lavishly illuminated with full- page miniatures. The results of the diagnostic study suggested that at least three different painters, each one with its own characteristic palette, contributed to the illumination of the manuscript. Precious colorants were employed for painting, among which of particular interest is the combined use of ultramarine blue and gold, considered the most valuable pictorial materials available to painters. Such a study could be a starting point for a larger research on the heritage of Armenian manuscripts held in Italian institutions. Keywords: Armenian manuscripts, spectroscopy, colorants, non-invasive analysis, Raman 1.

  • Armenian Press in Turin. 1915-18 Sona Haroutyunian Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, Italia
Armenia, Caucaso e Asia Centrale Ricerche 2020 a cura di Carlo Frappi e Paolo Sorbello Armenian Press in Turin. 1915-18 Sona Haroutyunian Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, Italia Abstract 1915 marked the start of a bloodier phase of the Armenian tragedy. 1915 was also the year in which Italy interrupted its diplomatic presence in Anatolia and entered the war against the Ottoman Empire. For the few Armenians then resident in Italy this co- incidence of circumstances constituted a mobilising factor: being in many cases citizens of the Ottoman Empire, on the one hand, they had to demonstrate their diversity with respect to the Turks, and on the other hand, the assumption of active behaviour towards the host country aimed at enhancing their belonging and cultural prerogatives. With the aim to investigate how the Genocide was experienced by the Armenian community in Italy, the paper will focus on the magazine Armenia. Eco delle rivendicazioni armene (Armenia. Echo of Armenian Claims) born in Turin and published between 1915-18. Keywords Armenia Magazine Torino. Armenian-Italian Community. Armenian Geno- cide. Armenian Press. Italian Press. Summary 1 Introduction. – 2 Press Coverage of the Armenian Genocide. – 3 Concluding Remarks. 1 Introduction The Armenian population of Italy had a multilayered configuration over the centuries. Different sources testify the arrival of Armenians as pilgrims and merchants, priests or skilled financiers, students, literary men and artists.1 1 There is a large bibliography on the presence of Armenians in Italy. I shall note here only a few key works as a guide to further bibliography: Manoukian 2014; Comneno 2012; Zekiyan 1978, 1996, 2006; Zekiyan, Ferrari 2004; Hermet, Cogni Ratti di Desio 1993; Adalian 1992; Bardakjian 1976.

  • The First VINCI Cup, an International Football Tournament for Under-15S
Paris, 26 August 2016 Press release The first VINCI Cup, an international football tournament for under-15s VINCI and Paris FC are organising the first VINCI Cup, as part of their partnership, on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August at the Complexe Marcel Bec in Meudon, a southwestern suburb of Paris. The aim for this unprecedented international tournament is to establish it as the benchmark for under-15 (U15) football players. It will gather 20 U15 squads from the top professional clubs – including Olympique de Marseille, Stade Rennais, Tottenham Hotspur and Standard de Liège – for the first time ever. The Athletic Club de Boulogne Billancourt (ACBB), the tournament venue’s resident club, will be the VINCI Cup’s guest of honour and have the privilege of measuring itself against the U15 elite. A sports tournament in a class by itself The VINCI Cup is the first tournament to gather U15 sides from 20 training clubs competing in several of Europe’s finest championships (in France, England, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland). This tournament will take place at the end of the summer, providing an unrivalled opportunity for these clubs to fine-tune their games before the season kicks off and to rally their squads around a shared target. And it will be an opportunity for many of these young players to take part in their first 11-a-side football tournament (as teams in younger categories have fewer players). A tournament with a civic perspective The VINCI Cup will also provide an opportunity to raise young people’s awareness of the VINCI Group’s and Paris FC’s commitments to promoting responsible driving, fair play, diversity and equal opportunity.
