We analyze the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Technique for Order Prefer- ence by Similarity to Ideal Solutions (TOPSIS). We build an old model based on the combination of them, which is named AHP-TOPSIS. The old model is built as: First, use the AHP to determine the weight of each factor on the coach’s evaluation. Then, use TOPSIS to rank the coaches. After ana- lyzing the result of the old model, we draw a conclusion that the weight vector calculated by AHP is subjective. Therefore, we decide to find a more objective method.Next, we build a totally new evaluation method based on the Entropy and AHP, which is named Composite Weight-TOPSIS (CWTOPSIS). The AHP is a representative of calculating subjective weight, which ignores the ob- jective factors. The Entropy is a representative of calculating objective weight. It depends on objec- tive numerical indicators, but ignores the relevant experts experience and subjective judgment. So we introduced the preference factor β to combine them together. We compare the results of the two models, and we can see the improved one has more advantages. Then, we take other factors into consideration: time the coach coaches and gender of the coach. We analyze them separately, and draw the conclusion that the time factor does affect the evaluation result and the gender factor has little influence on the final result.

    “Toughness” – Jay Bilas – ESPN .com I have heard the word "toughness" thrown around a lot lately. Reporters on television, radio and in print have opined about a team or player's "toughness" or quoted a coach talking about his team having to be "tougher" to win. Then, in almost coordinated fashion, I would watch games and see player upon player thumping his chest after a routine play, angrily taunting an opponent after a blocked shot, getting into a shouting match with an opposing player, or squaring up nose-to-nose as if a fight might ensue. I see players jawing at each other, trying to "intimidate" other players. What a waste of time. That is nothing more than fake toughness, and it has no real value. I often wonder: Do people really understand what coaches and experienced players mean when they emphasize "toughness" in basketball? Or is it just some buzzword that is thrown around haphazardly without clear definition or understanding? I thought it was the latter, and I wrote a short blog item about it a couple of weeks ago. The response I received was overwhelming. Dozens of college basketball coaches called to tell me that they had put the article up in the locker room, put it in each player's locker, or had gone over it in detail with their teams. Memphis coach John Calipari called to say that he had his players post the definition of toughness over their beds because he believed that true "toughness" was the one thing that his team needed to develop to reach its potential.

Iowa State coach Tim Floyd breaks his defense down into three parts: (1) Stop the transition, (2) Take away the designed offense, and (3) Limit opponent to just one shot. William Fleming High School coach Burrall Paye believes that a low post player must learn to pivot and use both feet with his offensive moves. Using the same foot with each pivot and move gives the defender an advantage. Clemson coach Rick Barnes feels that a key to running successful traps is teaching the habit of sprinting out of traps when they are not successful. No foot fakes when you shot fake. When on the free-throw lane, teach your players to step into their opponent and not into the lane (unless their opponent moves there). To beat a double-team, bring three players into prime receiving position, six to ten feet from the ball, spread out.
