Securing a sustainable future for the European music sector Dear President Juncker, As recording artists and songwriters from across Europe and artists who regularly perform in Europe, we believe passionately in the value of music. Music is fundamental to Europe’s culture. It enriches people’s lives and contributes significantly to our economies. This is a pivotal moment for music. Consumption is exploding. Fans are listening to more music than ever before. Consumers have unprecedented opportunities to access the music they love, whenever and wherever they want to do so. But the future is jeopardised by a substantial “value gap” caused by user upload services such as Google’s YouTube that are unfairly siphoning value away from the music community and its artists and songwriters. This situation is not just harming today’s recording artists and songwriters. It threatens the survival of the next generation of creators too, and the viability and the diversity of their work. The value gap undermines the rights and revenues of those who create, invest in and own music, and distorts the market place. This is because, while music consumption is at record highs, user upload services are misusing “safe harbour” exemptions. These protections were put in place two decades ago to help develop nascent digital start-ups, but today are being misapplied to corporations that distribute and monetise our works. Right now there is a unique opportunity for Europe’s leaders to address the value gap. The European Commission’s forthcoming review of copyright legislation can fix this profound market distortion by clarifying the appropriate use of safe harbours. We urge you to take action now to create a fair playing field for artists and rights owners. In doing so, you will be securing the future of music for generations to come. Po tragicznych wydarzeniach w Gdańsku, po tym, co tam się stało, jestem pewien, że przesłaniem uniwersalnym, dotyczącym każdego z nas, każdej ze wspólnot samorządowych, przesłaniem, które w znakomity sposób zdefiniowało bardzo poważny problem całego naszego kraju, ale i wspólnot lokalnych, było wystąpienie dominikanina ojca Ludwika Wiśniewskiego na pogrzebie prezydenta Gdańska Pawła Adamowicza, zamordowanego w czasie gdańskiego finału Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej Pomocy. Fragment tego wystąpienia pozwolę sobie tutaj przytoczyć. Prezydent Rybnika Piotr Kuczera – Z Gdańska wielokrotnie wychodził głos, właściwie krzyk, który wielu ludziom przywracał moralną równowagę. 80 lat temu z Gdańska, z Westerplatte, wyszedł rozpaczliwy krzyk wołający do całego świata, że wolność jest wartością bezcenną, że wolności trzeba bronić, zawsze bronić. Niemal 40 lat temu z Gdańska wyszedł apel do świata, w którym dobitnie wołano, że należy porzucić stary świat, świat egoizmu, darwinowskiej walki klas, że należy tworzyć świat nowy, świat solidarności, w którym jeden człowiek bierze na siebie brzemię drugiego człowieka i w którym porzuca się już etos walki ze złem, a buduje się świat, w którym zło zwycięża się dobrem. Gdańsk słusznie się nazywa, i wielokrotnie Paweł to powtarzał, miastem wolności i solidarności. Dzisiaj przeżywamy tu w Gdańsku nowy, dziejowy, historyczny moment. Cała Polska czeka, może nie tylko Polska, ażeby z Gdańska wyszło przesłanie, które dotrze do każdego Polaka i które przywróci moralną równowagę w naszym kraju i w naszych sercach.

Le 1er janvier 2014, 21 ans après sa création, le bureauexport a fusionné avec l’association Francophonie Diffusion, venue renforcer le dispositif d’aides à l’export proposé aux professionnels de la filière musicale française. En avril, un nouveau directeur général apporte une écoute et un regard neufs pour préparer le fruit de cette union nouvelle : la naissance du bureauexport du futur, plus que jamais l’Expert de l’Export ! Au printemps, les équipes des deux entités réfléchissent ensemble dans des groupes de travail, et se retrouvent en séminaire, pour nourrir le futur plan stratégique pluriannuel qui proposera à la filière un plan d’action pour muscler l’export de la musique française. En octobre, les équipes du bureauexport à Paris et de Francodiff déménagent boulevard de la Bastille dans l’immeuble industriel de la Contrescarpe.
