DGCA has so far not allowed A320 Neos with PW engines to be flown on routes where they are more than an hour away from a nearest airport at any point during the journey, due to the snags in Pratt engines. The US and European aviation regulators have given their nod in the last two years. As a result, the PW-powered A320 Neos with Indian carriers — IndiGo and GoAir — do not have “extended diversion time operations” (EDTO) clearance. “This clearance is required for aircraft with two or more engines to operate routes where the nearest suitable airport to make an emergency landing or divert to is more than an 60 minutes away at any point during the journey. The PW powered Neos in India have to fly on routes where an alternate landing airport is within 60 minutes away,” said a regulatory official. According to PW, its A320 Neo engine “has been granted 180 minute ETOPS eligibility by the European Aviation Safety Agency.” Now, IndiGo has sought EDTO clearance for the Neos as it prepares to make make use of the extended range of these planes to fly them to farther places. IndiGo did not comment on this issue. It also did not say what all routes it would operate the Neos on once and if EDTO clearance is given to them.

After obtaining the boarding card, the passenger goes through immigration checks where his/her passport/visa is thoroughly screened and their biographical data are stored into the computer by the government immigration officials. And, at this stage the passenger's data is matched with the suspected criminal databank. The Security Manager also stated that these screening procedures are generally similar at all airports (27 April 2009). The Bengaluru International Airport [Bangalore] website has a "security and passport control" section for international flight passengers that states that passengers, after acquiring their boarding pass, must proceed to the emigration check area where they are to complete "Visa formalities," after which they can proceed to the "international security control area," and then to the departure area (n.d.).     DEPARTMENT OF ATOMIC ENERGY The vision of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) is to empower India through application of nuclear science and technology, and to provide better quality of life to its citizens. During the period from May, 2014 till December 31, 2014, the programmes of the Department achieved impressive growth in various segments and domains. These are described below. In Nuclear Power generation,Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project-1 (KKNPP-1) of 1000 MWe commenced commercial operation on December 31, 2014. With this, the total number of operating power reactors is 20 with an installed capacity of 5680MWe. The second Unit, KKNPP – 2 is also in advanced stage of commissioning. During the calendar year 2014 the highest ever generation of 37146 MUs was recorded which is 10% higher than last year's generation. The Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS)-5 recorded a continuous run of 765 days which is the best in Asia and the second best in the world. Consent of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) was obtained in October 2014 to establish the Gorakhpur AnuVidyutPariyojanaHarayana (GHAVP) Units-1&2 (2x700 MWe PHWRs). In the area of uranium exploration, over 16,535 tonnes of additional Uranium Oxide (U3O8) reserves have been established in Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Jharkhand during the year thus taking the country's uranium resources to over 2, 14,158 tonnes of U3O8. The Tummalapalle uranium project is readying for commissioning in 2015-16. The mine has achieved the desired ore production capacity and adequate ore has been stockpiled.
