Saint Bridget School Annual Fund 2015-2016 Saint Bridget School Annual Fund 2015-2016 October 1, 2016 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Saint Bridget School is off to a great start! We welcome all the “New” in the form of 70 students, 2 international students (one from China and one from Turkey), 45 families and 4 staff members. We are approaching physical education from a holistic sense, now including nutrition, wellness, and exercise. We are implementing a modular schedule for Art, Music, and Technology in the Middle School, enabling more in-depth study. There are new instructional approaches, creative ideas, and learning strategies brought to us by the 16 faculty members who engaged in professional development workshops this summer. During upcoming faculty meetings and professional days, the teachers will collaborate and share their experiences and knowledge with the rest of the faculty. Finally, we opened a new Preschool program that brings us a joy-filled classroom of 3-year old children, so ready to hear the message Jesus wants to whisper in their ear. As I begin my third year as Principal, I continue to be convinced that there is no better place to educate a child than Saint Bridget School. Because we are tuition based, Saint Bridget School would not have the ability to broaden our academic space, enrich our learning environment and curriculum and upgrade our physical plant and technology without your support. Your Annual Fund gifts support all areas of the school’s Mission enabling us to use those resources to provide our students with what they need to succeed in this ever challenging world. I personally thank you for your support and generosity. The combination of the Annual Fund and the work of the dedicated and supportive PTO are essential to our success and we are immensely grateful and thankful for your participation. Thank you, Cathleen R. Chaves Page 2 Saint Bridget School SAINT BRIDGET SOCIETY $5000 and above Mutual One Charitable Foundation The 200 Foundation MONSIGNOR FRANCIS V. The Disquisition on Ptolemy's Geography of Scotland first appeared in the Transactions of the Gaelic Society of Inverness, and, later, as a pamphlet. The Publisher feels sure that the issue of these Treatises in their present foim will confer a boon on those who cannot have access to them as originally published. They contain a great deal of information on subjects which have for long years interested Gaelic students and the Gaelic public, although they have not always properly understood them. Indeed, hereto- fore they have been much obscured by fanciful fallacies, which Dr MacBain's study and exposition will go a long way to dispel. This first wave of emigration is regarded as a formative one for the city of Québec and its environs, and is to be distinguished from the second and catastrophic wave that occurred during and after the years of the Great Famine. In the words of the late Marianna O'Gallagher, historian of the Irish in Québec City: ‘it was the immigrants from the 1820s and earlier, and not those of the late 1840s, who founded the Québec community’.1 At the time, and for a long time afterwards, emigration to Québec and New Brunswick was encouraged by the fact that, due mainly to the timber trade, these were among the cheapest passages of all destinations in North America.2 For this reason, the region was used by many as a gateway to the United States.3 From the archives of the city and province – a significant and largely untapped source for Irish studies – and from the history of the manuscript described here, it is also clear that a great many Irish stayed and made their homes in Québec City and in the surrounding territories.
