Patton An abstract of a dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate Program in Religion in the Graduate School of Duke University 2018 Copyright by Yael Lazar 2018 Abstract Digital media prevail, determine, and shape contemporary lives and experiences, serving as an all-encompassing cultural system. Shaping modes of production and reception, digital media’s publics are networked to the media’s content and to each other in unique ways. Contemporary religions writ large, and Hinduism in specific, cannot escape the dominant digital culture and must negotiate their participation in it. Hindu devotion utilizes and permeates digital networks in various forms, and the number of websites and mobile applications offering Hindu content and services is constantly increasing. This study tells the story of a growing population of Hindu devotees who live and work as part of global digital and cultural networks, adjusting their religious praxis to their larger lifestyle by incorporating digital technologies and networks into their devotion. -

All India Sai Samaj
ALL INDIA SAI SAMAJ The Five decades of growth His Holiness Narasimha Swamiji started the monthly magazine 'Sai Sudha' in June 1940. Swamiji was a brilliant writer, a great orator and a capable organizer, and by his forceful and convincing presentation of facts and events, could carry the audience with him (he being a capable analytical lawyer himself) and will leave an everlasting impression on the lucky audience. The 'Sai Sudha' became a powerful magazine, eagerly awaited, carrying his speeches, editorials, and messages inspiring the devotees with faith in God and in Sai and enabling them to solve their various problems of life. The first decade therefore was full of his speeches and writings and his tour programs. 1940 to 1950 were ten years of great pioneering, foundation work of Swamiji, when the seed that was sown has now grown into a big Banyan Tree with thousands of roots in the form of Sai Mandirs, Sai Bhajan groups, Sai Centres of philosophy, Sai Libraries, etc, all over the vast country of ours. North, East, South and West. If Sai has become a household word, and Sai Baba Pictures adorn the Pooja room of every house, this was entirely the result of Sai Prachar by His Holiness Narasimha Swamiji. Swamiji had visited every town in Tamil Nadu, addressed numerous meetings, performed Sai Pooja himself at various devotees' houses, and had addressed elders as well as students in all towns, and today every taluq and town has a Sai Mandir and a Sai Bhajan group. The places visited were Kancheepuram, Wandiwash, Vellore, Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Tiruchi, Madurai, Pudukkottai, Coimbatore, and numerous villages on the way. -

Ambrosia in Shirdi Stories After Babas Mahasamadhi
AMBROSIA IN SHIRDI (A BOOK NEVER BEFORE) DEDICATED TO ANTARYAMIN SHIRI SAI BABA, SHIRDI STORIES AFTER BABAS MAHASAMADHI ON 15-10-1918 WRITTEN BY RAMALINGASWAMY, LIFE MEMBER SHRI SAI BABA SANSTHAN, SHIRDI, AT MUNJA BABA STHAN, SHIRDI I. BABA PROVED HIMSELF THAT THERE WERE NO SISHYAS NO RELATIVES, NO INCARANATIONS NO SUCCESSORS AND NO HEREDITARY TO HIM. Shri Sal Baba, Shirdi took His Mahasamadhi on 15-10-1918. After His Mahasamadhi, Baba's Samadhi was not looked after in a fit manner upto 1922. Having seen the maintenance of Baba's Samadhi by the Villagers, Shri Kakasaheb Dixit came to Shirdi, settled an office with a managing committee under Public Trust Act with the approval of the District Court, Ahmed-nagar. At that time, Shri Abdul Baba was performing Abhishek to Baba's Samadhi and the Maha Naivedyam food was given to him and he was allowed to take his residence in the room situated in the left side of the Samadhi Mandir. Shri Abdul Baba was the then only local leading devotee of Baba. He was then having about four or five thousand rupees of Baba's dakshina amount with him offered by Baba's devotees. Some well wishers of him induced him that he was the legal heir to Baba and that the formation of the Trust was against justice. Thereby Abdul Baba filed a suit stating that he was the legal heir to Baba, against the Trust Body in the District Court, Ahmednagar. The belowed District Court by the grace of Baba passed orders that Abdul Baba has no connection of the maintenance of the Sansthan of Shri Sai Baba, Shirdi and that there was no heir or successor to Shri Sai Baba, Shirdi. -
