GRG 35/2 Correspondence files ('SGO' files) - Surveyor General's Office

Series This is the major correspondence series of the Description Surveyor General's Office. Correspondence files consist of letters and other documents received by the Department, memoranda of action taken, internal reports or inquiries, and usually either brief notes outlining the reply (nineteenth century), or copies of letters sent (twentieth century

Initially, the subject matter of these files is quite similar to that of the Crown Lands Office correspondence (GRG 35/1), but with a bias towards matters requiring survey expertise ie. requests for dimensions of sections, requests for water reserves, requests for surveys and re-surveys, and boundary disputes. By the late nineteenth century subject matter generally relates to enquiries and payments for leases. Some files have been stamped 'Land Board' and 'Receiver of Rents'.
