J Burlington, the largest city in the State, with a population of 35,000, is 95 miles from Montreal, 230 miles from Boston, and 300 miles from New York City. The city has daily plane and bus service to these points. 5 Chartered in 1791, the University is the twentieth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States authorized to grant degrees and the second institution founded by state legislative action to offer in­ struction at the university level. J Although its legal title is the University of Vermont and State Agri­ cultural College, the University is known to its students and alumni as UVM. This popular abbreviation is derived from the Latin Universitas Viridis Montis. J Within the nine divisions of the University, instruction is offered in more than fifty programs leading to twenty-five different degrees.     PRIMARY ELECTIONS AUGUST 26, 2014 Pursuant to the Primary Election Warning recorded in the Town Records, Book 20, page 339, the Polls were declared open at 7:00 A.M. by the Town Clerk in the three polling districts. The three polling districts are stated in the Warning. At 6:55 P.M. the Town Clerk warned that the polls would close in 5 minutes. At 7:00 P.M. the polls were declared closed. After declaring the polls closed a printout from the Accu-Vote ballot tabulator containing the results was run. The “unofficial” returns were then distributed at the polling places. Ballot summaries were compiled by the Town Clerk and evening election workers. Upon completion of the count, all voted ballots were sealed in boxes. All unvoted ballots, tabulators with sealed memory packs, printouts, tally sheets and district supply boxes were returned to the Town Clerk’s office. The following persons were declared elected in their respective primary races.     MAY 27, 2019 KOREAN WAR FORGOTTEN - NO MORE MEN OF BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ WHO WERE CASUALTIES IN THE 1 The Cover is of the Korean War Veterans Memorial (19 stainless steel statues). The statues were sculpted by Frank Gaylord of Barre, VT and cast by Tallix Foundries of Beacon, NY. They are approximately seven feet tall and represent an ethnic cross section of America. The advance party has 14 Army, 3 Marine, 1 Navy and 1 Air Force members. The statues stand in patches of Juniper bushes and are separated by polished granite strips, which give a semblance of order and symbolize the rice paddies of Korea. The troops wear ponchos covering their weapons and equipment. The ponchos seem to blow in the cold winds of Korea. NOTES This booklet was prepared on behalf of the Burlington County War Memorial Committee. It is interrelated to the Korean War Monument that was dedicated May 27, 2019. The men contained herein are those, from Burlington County, New Jersey, that are listed on the National Archives web site. https://www.archives.gov/files/research/military/korean-war/casualty-lists/nj-alpha.pdf The lists are based on the "home of record - state" data provided by the serviceman or woman upon last entrance into military service. "Home of record" does not necessarily refer to the place of birth, residence of next of kin, place of longest residence, nor other common uses of the term "hometown." The account and associated photos in the chapter “The Korean War” was prepared by Sean Kane-Holland.
