3 Neighbourhood Watch News.

Christmas is almost upon us once again and the village Christmas tree provided by donations received last Christmas, will be put in place and decorated during the first week in December.

During the year we also purchased a new flag of St. George for St Mary’s Church, we have given a donation towards the sighting of the seat to commemorate the Olympic Torch coming through Wrawby, we provided Easter treats for the Tuesday Village Lunch, and there will be extras for the Christmas Lunch. This is how your donations received last Christmas have been spent in the village.

This year Father Christmas will be visiting Wrawby on Sunday 23rd December to meet you all and find out what you would like for Christmas.

He will begin his journey at approximately 4.30pm from the eastern end of Melton Road, continuing to Millview Gardens, Kettleby Lane, Applefields, Frankland Close, Vicarage Gardens, Markham Way, Chapel Lane, Tunnel Road, Bakersfield, Barton Road, and back up Brigg Road.

On behalf of the Neighbourhood Watch Team, may I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year. Julie Smith

Village Hall Lunches The Village Hall Lunches continue every week until the 11th of De- cember, the day of the Christmas Party. For those who have not been before, the lunches take place in the Vil- lage hall between 12.30 and 2pm. All ages are welcomed. The fayre is a choice of home made soups, special breads, cheese, plum bread , cof- fee and tea. There is no charge, but donations are invited. After costs, money raised this Autumn will be divided between the Wrawby Preschool and the restoration of the play park.

Own Hearse and Limousines Tel; 01652 653266 4 Parish Council Meeting - 6th November Police Matters The latest Police report for September 2012 indicates 5 recorded crimes for Wrawby - 1 theft (dwelling), 1 fraud, 3 thefts (other). These last three incidents involved two entirely separate attempted thefts of a concrete trough and of a trailer together with an aborted theft of lead, once again from the Church roof. Most of the lead was found in a neighbouring field, but water damage has occurred inside the church. A high proportion of the work of Neighbourhood Police Teams relate to public and individual needs and concerns that are not directly crime related. A good number of these prove to be unfounded but people's suspicions and concerns are legitimate and the police once again ask that anything suspicious, however minor, is reported. The police have advised council that there is once again an increase in metal thefts, particularly from elec- tricity equipment. Not only is this mindless vandalism, it is also very dangerous - please do not touch ex- posed cables as they may still be live. It is vital that children, pets and livestock are kept away from any damaged or exposed equipment. Planters Residents will have noticed that the beds made for the Queen's Jubilee have now been re-planted with conifers and winter pansies. Voluntary Car Service Each year, Council supports the transport arm of Humber & Wolds Rural Community Council (HWRCC) who operates community transport services in North Lincs. The Voluntary Car Service ar- ranges for volunteer drivers using their own vehicles, to take residents who either cannot use, or have no access to, private and public transport to doctors, hospitals, opticians, dentists, local shops etc. The user pays the driver 45p/mile with no payment to HWRCC. During the last year, over 9000 passenger jour- neys were undertaken for N. Lincs residents. If anyone needs this service, or conversely, if anyone wishes to offer their time to this, the contact details are: Telephone 01724 732560 or e-mail [email protected] . Graham Foster Parish Clerk ANTIQUES FUN QUIZ NIGHT

In November the Village Hall Committee organised an Antiques Fun Quiz Night which was at- tended by over 100 people. They were given 20 objects for which they had to explain their use, date & value them. These items ranged from a teaspoon to a chair! Robert Horner organised the items & made the whole evening a fun affair which was both entertaining & educational.

There was then a pie & pea supper & a raffle. Just over £500 was raised & thanks must go to the committee for their help with the evening & to those who attended. The money will go towards general improvements to the facilities at the hall. Anyone who wishes to make a booking for an event should contact Susan Day on 01652 653699.

Wrawby St Mary School News The Head Teacher would like to thank the craft club for sending a donation to our funds for the outdoor classroom, it was very much appreciated. There has been an approach by a few parents who would be interested in forming a PTA. It is proposed to hold a meeting to discuss this and get it up an running in the Spring Term.

From The Editors The Editors are very grateful to everybody for their contributions throughout the year. We would also like to thank our advertisers without whose support we would be unable to produce this newsletter.

6 CHRISTMAS IN WRAWBY As the excitement builds towards Christmas residents of Wrawby will be able to enjoy many of the traditions that have developed around the village.

There will be a range of Church Services including the School Christmas Service, two Christingle and Crib Service and a Eucha- rist on Christmas morning. The popularity of the Christingle has resulted in a packed Church, with standing room only, in the last couple of years. To combat this there will be two services this year, at 3.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m., both of which will be the same This year the group Midnight Mass will be held at St Clements Worlaby.

Once again there will be a Christmas Tree outside the Church, kindly provided by Wrawby Neighbourhood Watch. Also Father Christmas will be making a pre Christmas visit on 23 De- cember, before his delivery on Christmas morning to those who have been good.

There are a number of new additions to the festivities this year including The Big Sing on the 12th December, Community Choir Carols at the Jolly Miller on the 18th and Christmas Sing-a- long at the Black Horse on the 23rd.

Further details of village events are contained elsewhere within this newsletter.

I have no doubt that many of you will have your own traditions to add to the list. I hope that amongst all the presents, food and parties that you will have time to remember the reason for the Festival, to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Merry Christmas to our J. C. As darkness falls on Christmas Eve dozens of children, with parents and grandparents in tow, make their way to our ancient parish church of St Mary’s to receive their Christingle oranges and join in blessing the crib. This short and simple service has a special atmosphere of its own – the carols, the candles, the eager faces, the simple joy of celebrating the birth of Baby Jesus in a humble stable.

This is not just a mid-winter festival to give us a rest from work and extra time with our families, welcome though that is. The true heart and centre of Christmas is the coming into the world of Jesus. If we miss Him out, we miss the whole point. It’s His birthday we are meant to be celebrating! The real essence of this holy season is that God takes our human nature upon himself. He becomes what we are, so that we may become what He is.

The actual circumstances of Jesus’ birth were harsh, and we should not be sentimental about it. The world of Herod was a cruel one, with child murders, political persecution, corruption and the abuse of power. Poverty and contempt for human rights were daily realities. Jesus experienced for himself what it was like to be homeless, a refugee and an outcast.

In this remarkable person a new explosive force for good bursts in upon our human life. We catch a glimpse of the world as God intends it to be – a world without crime, or violence, or hatred. This corresponds to our deepest longings: our need to be loved, and to be set free from selfishness and the grip of evil.

When we feel horrified by all that is amiss in today’s world, we can hang on to this fact: the light that shines in the person of Jesus Christ is the light that nobody can ever put out. He is the source of hope and illumination that can never be quenched or snuffed out. This is what St John meant when he wrote that Jesus is the true light that gives light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. That really is something to rejoice about - the deep and truly worthwhile reason for celebrating His birth. May each of us come to know His love, peace and joy more fully this Christmas. DAVID TUSTIN
