Local Authors Pen Bizarro Fiction Anthology The north-western states of Washington and Oregon have long been considered the birthplace and incubator for the transgressive fiction genre known as Bizarro, but the tri-state area is now making its mark on the world of weird writing thanks to the significant contributions of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia authors to the newly-published anthology The Big Book of Bizarro. Of the 57 short stories contained in the 538-page, two-pound tome, tri-state authors represent the largest region of the international cast of Bizarro writers. More than twenty authors from Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio contributed their best weird fiction to the collection. The Big Book of Bizarro brings together the peculiar prose of the most grotesquely-gonzo, genre-grinding modern writers who ever put pen to paper (or mouse to pad), including: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD horror writers/actors John Russo and George Kosana; HUSTLER MAGAZINE erotica contributors Eva Hore, Andrée Lachapelle and J. Troy Seate; and established Bizarro genre authors D. Harlan Wilson, William Pauley III, Laird Long and Richard Godwin. The Big Book of Bizarro is separated into three thematic sections, specifically Horror, Fantasy/Science Fiction, and Erotica; and local writers had a significant impact on each section. It also features illustrations by Pittsburgh artist Jon Towers. The tri-state titles included in the compilation are: Pennsylvania • “The Fall” by David J. Fairhead (Bethel Park) • “Karnivali” by Jesse J. Saxon (Canonsburg) • “Tiffany’s!! It’s Get Even Time!!” by George Kosana (Clairton) • “Channel 666” by John Russo (Glassport) • “Talking Heads” by Nicole E. Peffer (Harmony) • “Pearl” by Scott Emerson (Nemacolin) • “Cotton Mouth” by Christopher Danaher (Pittsburgh) • “Decorations” by Nelson W. It is available from Amazon.com and BurningBulbPublishing.com. The Big Book of Bizarro was co-edited by north-central West Virginia horror novelists Rich Bottles Jr. and Gary Lee Vincent. Rich Bottles Jr.’s books include Lumberjacked and Hellhole West Virginia. Gary Lee Vincent’s fiction includes Darkened Hills, Darkened Hollows, and Passageway. The titles Darkened Hills and Darkened Hollows are part of Vincent’s “Darkened” vampire series. Co-editor Rich Bottles Jr. commented, “A particular reader may not like every single piece of prose included in this anthology, but we hope most readers will agree that there's a lot of interesting, captivating, entertaining and fun reading ahead for those who enjoy perusing transgressive fiction.” According to a definition on the Goodreads website, “Bizarro fiction is a contemporary literary genre, which often utilizes elements of absurdism, satire, and the grotesque, along with pop-surrealism and genre fiction staples, in order to create subversive works that are as weird and entertaining as possible.” More information on The Big Book of Bizarro can be obtained through the publisher: Burning Bulb Publishing, P.O.
