MCDONOUGH, ESQ. TO DELIVER KEYNOTE SPEECHES AT MMC11 Keynote Speaker 2007: Bruce Warren - Assistant General Manager For Programming, WXPN

During the past eight years as Program Director for WXPN and Executive Producer of World Cafe, Bruce Warren has evolved into one of the most knowledgeable and influential voices in public radio today. Warren’s commitment to the WXPN vision of offering intelligent, thought-provoking radio has translated into music programs like XPN Artist To Watch and World Cafe Next that engage the listener in an ongoing journey of music discovery. A three-time recipient of R&R’s Program Director of the Year Award (2002, 2005, 2006) and Billboard Magazine’s Program Director of the Year (2002), Warren has served as president for the Public Radio Program Directors Association (2005-2006). He contributes to Paste Magazine, WXPN All About The Music Blog, the NPR Song of The Day, and is the author of the Some Velvet Blog.

Bruce will speak at 5:15PM on Friday the 16th in the Ballroom of the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center where the eleventh annual Millennium Music Conference will be held.

His keynote speech is entitled, “So You Want To Be A Star? Forget It!” In thinking about your career and how you will get heard in a noisy, crowded and rapidly changing media landscape, what opportunities should you pursue in getting your music out to “the people?” There are new rules at play in breaking your career and Bruce will provide some insight and advice to you as you look at some of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Keynote Speaker 2007: Walter F. McDonough, Esq. General Counsel, Future of Music Coalition

Walter F. McDonough is the General Counsel and one of the founders of the Future of Music Coalition. The FMC is a non-profit research institute that examines the law, economics and technology of the music business and is renowned for its annual policy conference. Mr. McDonough also serves as a board member on the performing rights society Sound Exchange and the AARC. Mr. McDonough is also an attorney who represents, among others, the Dresden Dolls and Mission of Burma. He is an adjunct professor of copyright law at Suffolk University Law School. Mr. McDonough was an associate at Carroll Guido & Groffman in New York City, one of America’s leading music law firms, a former assistant Massachusetts Attorney General and a law clerk for the Honorable Edward F. Harrington of the United States Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Anyone who follows the music and entertainment industries knows that this decade has been one of colossal change and controversy. Although new models like YouTube and MySpace have provided new opportunities for creators, they have also generated litigation and concerns about copyright ownership and distribution of monies. How should the entertainment industry deal with these new entities? What is the proper role of the government in being a referee in these matters? What can recording artists, songwriters and managers do to make sure that they are part of the business and political process? Attorney Walter McDonough will cover all these topics and more in his Keynote Address at 5:15PM on Saturday, February 17th. • ELEVENTH ANNUAL MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE
