AVOHK RTI 2008 The Route The RTI this year will run anti-clockwise in a figure of 8, beginning, handing over and ending at the car park in Wong Nai Chung Gap. Water will be available at the points marked **. Runners must check in at each checkpoint and have their number recorded. From the car park at Wong Nai Chung Gap**, turn right across the bridge and run down Wong Nai Chung Road to the Stubbs Road roundabout. Cross over to Bowen Road and follow it to the end. Cross Magazine Gap Road and run up Brewin Path. Turn left at the fork in the woods and run up the stairs and driveway, Clovelly Path, to the junction of May Road and Tregunter Path. Cross May Road and follow Tregunter Path to its end at Old Peak Road. Cross Old Peak Road and continue straight ahead through the sitting out area and along a rough trail through the woods for about 500m. Watch carefully for the blue dots indicating a right turn down a steep flight of stone stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, turn left and follow the boulder fence to its end. Climb a few steps and follow the second fence to its end and onto a concrete path through the woods to the dead end at the top of Po Shan Road(checkpoint 1**). Run down Po Shan Road to the underpass and turn left up the stairs by the fire station. Turn right up Hatton Road for 400m to the turnoff for Lung Fu Shan. Turn right, then immediately left and follow the road to its end. Bear left onto a trail into the woods (not down the stairs). Follow this trail until it merges with Pokfulam Reservoir Road. Turn right down Pokfulam Reservoir Road for 200m and bear left at the fork. Follow this road to its end at a covered reservoir and take the path around the reservoir fence until it ends at a small road. Turn left up hill. At the public latrine, take the right fork and follow it to the junction with the hacking trail. Opposite this junction, turn right down the stairs and follow the catchment to its end. Turn right down the trail and take the first fork to the left. Follow this trail and long set of stairs down to the lower catchment and turn left. Continue on the catchment past the intersection with Peel Rise(checkpoint 2**). Stay on the catchment, ignoring all roads, paths and stairs down to the right, until eventually the catchment becomes a section of Aberdeen Reservoir Road. When the road forks left up the hill, bear right instead and cross the Aberdeen Reservoir upper dam. Continue straight ahead on the path, ignoring all intersections, until it merges with the Aberdeen catchment. Follow the catchment for about a kilometer, watching for the blue dots marking a right turn down a trail into the wood. Follow the path until it emerges on Nam Fung Road near the junction with Deep Water Bay Road. Turn left up Nam Fung Road and return to the start/finish area at Wong Nai Chung Gap (checkpoint 3**). (Wimps change here, if you wish to change elsewhere, check in here first ) Cross Tai Tam Road and turn right onto the trail below the Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park. Follow the catchment and trail until it crosses a flight of cement steps (the Wilson Trail) above Repulse Bay Gap. Turn right down the stairs to the gap. Cross the bridge and immediately turn left down the trail. At the end of the trail, turn right onto and run along Tai Tam Reservoir Road to the park entrance at Tai Tam Road (checkpoint 4**). Cross Tai Tam Road and continue down past the American School (on the right) and the Tai Tam Scout Centre (on the left). At the bottom, turn left along the seafront. Continue through the village, keeping left, until the rail crosses below the Tai Tam Dam. Cross the bridge under the dam and immediately turn right on a trail through the woods. When the trail emerges onto a cement path, turn left up the steps and then right on the Shek O catchment. Follow the catchment to the end and continue on the HK Trail to the Hobie Cat Club at To Tei Wan. Turn left up the stairs to Shek O Road (checkpoint 5**). Cross the road and continue up the HK Trail. Do not climb up to the Dragon’s Back, but follow the level bicycle trail that runs off to the left. When this trail meets a concrete road, continue down the hill, go through the gate and, at the bend, turn left down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, take Shek O Road straight ahead to Tai Tam Gap. Turn right at Tai Tam Gap down a small road for about 300 metres to where it crosses a catchment. Turn left and follow the catchment to the end, where it crosses Tai Tam Road (checkpoint 6**). Carefully cross the road and continue up some stairs. Follow the catchment past the new covered reservoir and nearly to its end at a small dam. Watch for blue dots indicating where to turn left, cross the catchment and climb a rope up a small path to a higher contour trail. Turn right on this trail and follow it to its end above Kornhill. Turn left (not down the steps) and follow this trail to its end at Mt. Parker Road above the Country Park Management Centre. Turn right down Mt. Parker Road for just 40m, then turn left along Sir Cecil’s Ride. Follow Sir Cecil’s Ride (checkpoint 7**) to its end at the top of Mt. Butler Road. Turn right down Mt. Butler Road and follow it until just past the first apartments on the right. Turn left onto Sir Cecil’s Ride again and follow it to the finish at Wong Nai Chung Gap car park (Finish**). True grits can now enjoy a well-earned beer; wimps can resolve to do more training next year. .
