Coronavirus Spiddle CORONAVIRUS SPIDDLE 0.49 ERA, 2-1, 2 COMPLETE GAMES, 2 SAVES CORONAVIRUS LEAGUE 5-3 WEEK WITH ACQUIRED PITCHERS! FIRST WEEK RESULTS IMPRESSIVE! TRADE BENEFITS BOTH TEAMS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY If the first week results of THE DEAL, that brought 3 pitchers from Tamaqua to Championville, are any indication of the remainder of the season, then Willie Randolph may soon be a forgotten name in Championville. The trio of pitchers the Champions brought over from Tamaqua have made an instant impact with a 2-1 record, 2 complete games, 2 saves, AND an unbelievable .049 combined ERA. The big question is…...will it last? THE DEAL, involved 6 players. Swallow‟s Jerry Reuss, Andy Rincon, and Ken Brett going to the Champions, in exchange for, Willie Randolph, Scott McGregor and Pete Vuckovich. From the Champions perspective, the results couldn‟t be much better. The 3 pitchers have a COMBINED 0.49 ERA after 37 innings pitched with the only blemish being a Jerry Reuss 1-0 loss. Meanwhile , Dave Stapleton, Randolph‟s Rincon 2-0, 0.56 ERA replacement at 2nd base is batting a stellar.265 avg with 2 Reuss, 1-1, 0.47 ERA Minor league file photo doubles AND 2 triples. The Champions have won 4 games since the trade and appear poised to make a run at a playoff spot. How have the Swallows faired since THE DEAL, you might be asking? They are the only team to win more games than the Champions last week as they pocketed 5 wins to move themselves into sole possession of 2nd place in the standings. Randolph has batted .308 (up from .261) with a pair of doubles and stolen bases. McGregor hasn‟t performed as well, going 0-2 with a 6.94 ERA., and Vuckovich has not seen any action yet. When asked about the surprising initial results, GM Johnny of Championville said, “What‟s surprising about it?? Do you think we‟d trade away a quality, everyday player to NOT get excellent results?? Don‟t count us out yet, it‟s been over 30 years since a Championville team has missed the playoffs, we don‟t intend to miss this postseason”. Charles Brown, the Tamaqua GM stated, “We‟re in 2nd place and we‟re getting what we thought we would out of the trade, if you want a „loser story‟ for your paper, go talk to those teams behind us in the Ken Brett 0.00 ERA, 2 Saves - giving younger brother George hitting tips standings…for those that can‟t count, there‟s 6 of them!”. 1 Saturday CORONAVIRUS NEWSPAPER W.P. CRONKITE February 26, 2021 SPIDDLE EDITOR -THE DIGITAL NEWSPAPER- In other action around the league, Sodasopa continues their slide in the standings as they have gone 5-16 in their last 21 games. It‟s a stunning turnaround since their 19-5 start. If they continue to lose at this pace, they will end with a 27-29 record and fighting for their playoff survival. Speaking of losers, Muff City has gone 3-6 this week, Ellicottville 2-2, and Lickmyville was in at 2-2. On a positive note for the Big Nut‟s, they had a record 11 game win streak broken up by Championville. The have gone 14-3 with the only 3 losses coming at the hand‟s of Championville (might this be an omen that the Champions are surging at the right time?). The only other teams that finished the week with winning records were the Bad Dawg‟s, in at 3-1, and the Wieners at 3-2. However, the Bad Dawg‟s were the beneficiary of playing the sliding, wallowing Pigs, while the Wieners played lowly Muff City. For what it‟s worth,,,, Beezbol get‟s relief pitcher John Henry Johnson back this week after 20 games on the DL! The Boston Red Sox Wednesday, December 30, 2020 * The Boston Globe Jackie Bradley Jr. is taking a patient approach in free agency Julian McWilliams Sleep is at a minimum for outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. these days. On Dec. 3, Bradley and his wife, Erin, received an early Christmas gift when they welcomed their second child, Jackie Bradley III, into the world. That has been Bradley’s main focus, even though he’s a free agent in a market that has been extremely slow to this point. “I’ve always been, you know, of the mind-set that everything will work out the way it should,” Bradley said. “It’s honestly been about being home with my family at the moment, especially with a newborn, so we’re kind of adjusting and adapting.” Bradley has taken a measured and patient approach to this free agency period. He also has kept a realistic one. Bradley knows the pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding 2021 could make this even more of a drawn-out process. “Writers, players, whoever it may be — owners — kind of knew it was going to be a slow offseason,” Bradley said. “I feel like everybody is kind of trying to get more information about what’s going to go on with the pandemic. Making sure that everybody’s protected in a certain way. So we ... forecast the flow, but it’ll pick up when it does.” In Bradley’s case, things might start to pick up when George Springer, the most coveted free agent outfielder, signs. But Bradley is garnering a decent amount of interest.

AUGUST 30th LEHIGH VALLEY (80-55) at PAWTUCKET (65-69) 7:05 pm Lehigh Valley IronPigs RHP Jerod Eickhoff (0-0, 1.32) vs. Pawtucket Red Sox RHP Justin Haley (6-8, 3.89) Series Matters - The Pawtucket Red Sox host the International League Northern Division Champion Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA- Philadelphia) in the rubber game of their 3-game series tonight at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium. Last night the PawSox evened the series at a victory apiece with an exciting 5-3 victory. On Tuesday in the series opener, the IronPigs scored 6 unearned runs in the top of the 9th to snap a 3-3 tie en route to a 9-3 win. With a victory tonight the Sox will win their second straight series (they took 3 of 4 in Buffalo earlier this week) and make it four series in a row without a series loss (they split their previous two 4-game sets vs. Durham and at Rochester during the middle of the month). Pawtucket’s last series loss came on August 14 & 15 when they dropped 2 of 3 at home to Norfolk. The PawSox are 16-20-6 in their 42 series this season (16 wins, 20 losses, and 6 splits) with three series results still pending (including tonight). Wait ‘Til Next Year - Pawtucket still trails in the wild card race by 5½-games with 5 games so last night’s Indianapolis win (the Indians are the current wild card leader) officially eliminated the PawSox from playoff contention for the 4th year in a row.

SEPTEMBER 2nd PAWTUCKET (66-71) at SCRANTON/WB (71-65) 6:35 pm Pawtucket Red Sox RHP Josh A. Smith (5-5, 4.16) vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders RHP Adonis Rosa (2-1, 3.71) It Takes Two to Tango – The Pawtucket Red Sox play their penultimate game of the 2018 season when they begin the back half of this important home and home series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-Yankees) tonight at 6:15 pm at McCoy Stadium (live on myRITV). The regular-season will conclude tomorrow with a Labor Day matinee at 1:35 pm at McCoy. The past two nights in Moosic, PA, the clubs split a 2-game set as the RailRiders held the Sox to 3 hits in a 3-1 victory on Friday but the PawSox gained the split by blanking Scranton/WB last night, 3-0 behind four pitchers…Josh D. Smith, winner Travis Lakins, Fernando Rodriguez, Jr., and save to Marcus Walden along with a 2-run HR by rehabbing 3B Rafael Devers. The Amazing Race - The RailRiders remain ever so slightly ahead in the IL wild card race as Scranton/WB (.5220) is 3 ten- thousandths of pct. points in front of both Columbus and Indianapolis (.5217). Scranton/WB will play two less games (138) than both Columbus and Indy (who will play the full 140) as the RailRiders had two games cancelled due to weather (one each in June & July). Thus, SWB can not end in a tie with any club for the wild card…even currentl IL West leader Toledo (by a ½-game over Columbus & Indianapolis) will only play 139 games.

  • AUGUST 29Th LEHIGH VALLEY (80-54) at PAWTUCKET (64-69) 7:05 Pm
AUGUST 29th LEHIGH VALLEY (80-54) at PAWTUCKET (64-69) 7:05 pm Lehigh Valley IronPigs RHP Enyel De Los Santos (10-4, 2.43) vs.Pawtucket Red Sox RHP Mike Shawaryn (2-1, 4.32) Tragic Number is 1 - The Pawtucket Red Sox host the International League Northern Division Champion Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA-Philadelphia) in the middle game of their 3-game series tonight at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium. Last night in the series opener, the IronPigs scored 6 unearned runs in the top of the 9th to snap a 3-3 tie en route to as 9-3 victory. As a result, Pawtucket now trails in the wild card race by 5½-games with 6 games so one more PawSox loss or one more Indianapolis win would officially eliminate the Sox from playoff contention for the 4th year in a row. The PawSox had qualified for post-season play in four straight years (2011-14) but are now in danger of four consecutive non-playoff years (2015-18). It would be Pawtucket’s longest playoff drought since a five year stretch from 1998-2002 when the Sox failed to make the IL Playoffs. A Wild Race Indeed - Lehigh Valley, who clinched their first-ever IL North division title at home this past weekend with a walk-off winner vs. Scranton/WB, can’t make any post-season travel arrangements quite yet as they must still await their playoff foe for a semi-final series that will begin one week from tonight at the eventual wild card winner.
