With each production, BoHo explores one of the bohemian pillars: truth, beauty, freedom, or love. The stories we share ask us to examine how these pillars affect the relationships we experience or encounter in our everyday lives. With THREE DAYS OF RAIN, we delve into the pillar of “truth.”

One of the most mysterious of relationships is that of parent and child. I’m constantly in awe of how little I actually know or understand about my parents, and conversely how little I feel they know about me. I'm from a time period similar to the characters in Act I, and I share both their drive to understand where they're from and also their hope to try and make sense of childhood memories and mysteries. What’s difficult to accept in my search for understanding is the fact that my parents are defined through my own personal filter... and that filter is almost certainly guaranteed to obscure the truth. Moreover, I can’t help wondering if my parents are asking these same questions about my truths, perhaps wondering how past moments, memories, or secrets they’ve held have shape who I am today.

BoHo was drawn to THREE DAYS OF RAIN by its exciting and complex relationships and the show's focus on unearthing “truths” in these relationships. Being able to experience both sides of “assumption” and “truth” through the lens of the parent and child relationship – and doing so on behalf of a beautifully written and incredibly intelligent script – is exactly the reason this kind of story excites us as a company. It challenges my own perceptions of what I believe to be “truth” in my parental relationship, and I hope it similarly inspires others to do the same.

For my part, understanding the story of my parents will be a life long journey. Yet with each passing day, a little “assumption” gives way to “truth.” Watching this production reminds me of how far I have yet to travel to find the full story.
