British W Aterfowl Association 33Rd C Hampion W Aterfowl Exhibition Biosecurity Information Participants must familiarise themselves with the symptoms of Avian Influenza and other notifiable Sunday 7th diseases and should take all reasonable steps to minimise the risk of spread of such diseases through November 2021 adopting pro-active biosecurity measures. Exhibition At the end of the gathering participants must: · Remove all their poultry and carriers from the gathering venue, back to the premises of origin · Inspect each bird for signs of ill health, notifying the gathering organiser and/or poultry expert if disease is suspected · If disease is suspected, isolate those birds for a veterinary inspection and if Avian Influenza is suspected APHA must be notified immediately (as per the organiser’s Contingency Plan) · In the case of suspected Avian Influenza, no birds should leave the premises until an APHA 33rd Champion Waterfowl Waterfowl 33rd Champion veterinary inspector has permitted the removal. Show Rules Championship Judge: Andrew Marment Geese Tom Davis 1. Doors open at 7.30 am on Sunday and all exhibits must be penned by 9.15. Any exhibits not penned by 9.15 am may be refused. Heavy ducks Richard Bett 2. Birds must not be deliberately mishandled. They may be restrained by the wings or Light ducks Bill Bowen neck but the body weight must be supported when they are carried. 3. Only judges and officials may handle exhibits once penned. This is because it is easier to vent sex the day-olds of these species with very little training. Moreover, crossbreeding is rarely an option for exhibition and ornamental breeders. The exception is in commercial table duckling production where unfortunately since only white breeds are used, sex-linkage cannot be exploited. There may be some, however, who feel unable to attempt vent sexing, particularly with goslings which are more difficult to manipulate and more vulnerable to rough handling. Others may be interested in sex-linked inheritance for its own sake regardless of any practical advantage. THE PRINCIPLES OF SEX – LINKAGE Without going into too much technical detail I would like to explain the principles underlying sex-linkage. To comply with these new requirements we have modified our movement documents for all classes of stock coming to market to include the necessary declarations on food chain information. This will allow us to pass on this information which must accompany all animals to slaughter and for Store Stock to pass on Medical withdrawal information. Unless otherwise stated at the time of sale (either by the auctioneer or on the catalogue) all livestock are sold as having completed all withdrawal periods for any veterinary medicines they have received. For any animals under treatment the details must be completed in the movement declaration form. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that any animal destined for the food chain are outwith any withdrawal periods. Please note all sheep will require two documents, the Scottish Government SAMU Movement Document and our Movement Document incorporating the Food Chain Information Declaration. New Livestock keepers: Requirement to register with your Animal Health Office. New keepers of the main livestock species (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs) are required to register their herds and flocks, and the ‘‘holdings’’ they are kept on, under EU Directives.
