A Message From Our Pastor.
Dear Friends,
There’s a lot more to parish life than Mass once a week. Of course, nothing can replace the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as the sum and summit of all Christian worship. But from the graces received through the Eucharist, we are called to be a community of faith. There are so many ways in which we can take our faith and put it in action.
Service at Worship We are always in need of more lectors, altar servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, both at Mass and in direct service to homebound or nursing home parishioners. Our choir at the 9:45 Mass can use more voices, especially men’s voices. And, beginning in September, there will be a contemporary choir at the 11:15 Mass. We need singers, guitarists and keyboard players and more.
Service to Parish We are blessed with a huge group of people who make our annual Fair a great success. But every week, Bingo brings in needed funds for the parish. The need for bingo volunteers, even one Friday a month, will be a great help to keep Bingo going.
Service to our Community Recently several parishioners have joined the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the parish. This is a tremendous need because so many people turn to us for help with the basic necessities. Consider joining with your friends in direct assistance to those in need in our own neighborhood.
Service in the Community Wouldn’t it be great to have a presence of St. Cecilia Parish in the City of Leominster September parade? Time is getting short. Do you have the time to help create a float to let everyone know about the good things happening at St. Cecilia’s?
Fun “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” We’re organizing a parish outing to the Pawtucket Red Sox this summer. We’d like to fill a bus. There is information in the bulletin. Sign up now!

We Wish To Thank our dedicated Cemetery and parish grounds crew and custodians, Denis Leger and Perry Comeau, for their hard work preparing Saint Cecilia’s Cemetery for Memorial Day. Our Cemetery custodial crew also maintain the three parish buildings throughout the year, as well as the exterior grounds of the Catholic Charities building. This winter and spring were particularly difficult, with the frequent snow storms. Everything looked great and we can be proud of our parish buildings and grounds.
The Ladies Of St. Anne - Final meeting of the year will be held next Wednesday, June 10 with a Mass at 7 PM in the church. During the Mass, we will install a new member and re-install our board members. A brief meet- ing will follow in the Parish Center lower hall. All members are encouraged to attend to show their support.

The Most Holy Trinity “The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8:16-17) If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn’t we work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn’t we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time, talent and treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way?
We live in a world that relies more and more on access to news and information at our fingertips, from smartphones to portable computers – and now even on watches! No one understands better how media can be an opportunity to carry out our mission as the Catholic Church than our Holy Father, Pope Francis. His embracing all forms of media to deliver his message has enabled him to capture the attention and imagination of the world and we are all beneficiaries of his efforts. In turn, he encourages all local dioceses, parishes and Catholic institutions to do the same. Next weekend we will be taking a special collection for the Catholic Communications Campaign which supports the delivery of the Daily Mass, devotional and informational programming, and other special events through various media including cable TV, radio, media relations, streaming videos, websites on the internet and social media. Part of your donation supports our local efforts through the Office of Communications/TV Ministry. The remainder supports national efforts on behalf of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, including this year’s significant media support for the papal visits to New York City and the UN, Washington, D.C. and the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, COUNCIL #406, OF LEOMINSTER will be conducting its Annual Memership Drive next weekend, June 6th & 7th following all Masses. The Knights of Columbus are a Catholic Family Fraternal Service Organization centered around Faith, Hope and Charity. Representatives from the Knights of Columbus will be stationed at the entrances of the church after each Mass. They will be available to explain what the Knights of Columbus are all about and to answer any questions you may have, as well as provide you with a membership application if you would like to join.
Pilgrimage Trips to World Meeting of Families and Papal Visit The Diocese of Worcester will offer TWO OPTIONS for pilgrimage trips to the World Meeting of Families to be held in Philadelphia from September 22 – 27. Option1 (Sept. 22-27) will include conferences with world-renown speakers and the Papal Visit with Pope Francis. Option 2 (Sept. 24-27) will take in just the events for the Papal Weekend. These trips are being coordinated by Canterbury Pilgrimages and Tours. This Weekend we will be honoring and saying farewell to those graduating seniors who will be leaving the Altar Server Ministry - Lucas DeLisle and Lucas Escobar. At the age of 9, they joined this ministry, stood up against all peer pressure that often comes to the young people today, and juggled their high school activities to remain steadfast in their commitment to serve at the altar. We are proud to see them, now, as fine young adults and we know that they will be blessed for this selfless act. Please join us in wishing them all the best in their new journey, as we thank them for a job well done.
Additionally, during that Mass, we will also be honoring those servers who have reached the status of “Senior Server” - Gabrielle Grimley and Reilly Snow. They too have remained true to their commitment as an Altar Server and continue to serve at the altar with dignity, maturity, and respect for God and this Parish Community. With this new title, they will help in the training of new servers, and be called upon for special Masses celebrated by the Bishop, and will be looked upon as fine examples to the Youth of the parish. Please join us in congratulating them for their job well done.
Altar Server Crosses: During this honoring, “Senior Servers” will be presented with a cross to be worn while they are serving, to distinguish them apart from the younger ones. We would like to thank Jim Fernandes for the crafting of these new crosses. They are truly a work of art.
Altar Server Ministry... We Are Inviting any child who has reached the age of nine before December 31, and has received their First Communion, to participate in the Altar Server Ministry at St. Cecilia’s. Your son/daughter will have the opportunity to see themselves as active members of the church through a fuller participation in the Mass and in their parish community. We also encourage older children or young teens to partake in this ministry. It is not too late as older servers are needed for special occasions. Those who are interested are to call Janice Goguen at 978-537-1312 or the Rectory at 978-537-6541 and leave your name and number with the Secretary. City of Leominster Centennial The City of Leominster is celebrating 100 years of the city charter this year. One major event is a parade on Sunday, Sept. 27. Is there interest in the parish in creating a float or other presence in the parade? If you’re interested, call the rectory or contact a Parish Council member by June 1 and become a member of the planning committee.
PawSox (Pawtucket Red Sox) St. Cecilia's Parish Council is pleased to announce a parish trip to a Pawtucket Red Sox game on Sunday, August 23. A bus will depart from the parish center parking lot in the late morning and return late afternoon. Cost is $25.00 per person for the bus ride and box seats to the game. St. Clotilde
Clotilde was a Burgundian princess who was part of an arranged marriage with Clovis, the King of the Franks, in the year 492. The marriage was part of a peace treaty and had nothing to do with her feelings in the matter. Such was the fate of royal princesses in the Middle Ages. Clotilde accepted her reality, but she was distressed that her husband was not a Christian.
Although Clovis was still a pagan, he allowed Clotilde to have their first child baptized. When he died shortly thereafter, Clovis cursed “Clotilde’s God” and swore to have nothing to do with him. When their second son was born, Clotilde had him secretly baptized. Soon thereafter he, too, be- came very ill, but he survived.
It was not until 496 that Clovis was baptized. He was losing a battle and his troops were retreating when he prayed to “Clotilde’s God,” promising to become a Christian if he won the battle. He did win and he sought instruction but unexpectedly, he embraced Christianity wholeheartedly. While being instructed by the bishop, when he heard of the Crucifixion, he cried out indignantly, “Had I and my faithful Franks been there, the Romans had not dared to do it!”
The Early Middle Ages was an incredibly bloodthirsty time, but Clovis tried sincerely to be a good Christian. He certainly was never a pacifist, but he tried to fight in the cause of justice and right, not merely personal gain. Clovis died in 511 and Clotilde lived on another 34 years, much of it years of sorrow and pain.
Clotilde and Clovis had three surviving sons: Clodomir, Childebert and Clotaire. Clodomir, the old- est, became king in place of his father and one of his first acts was to kill his first cousin, Clotilde’s nephew, Sigismund, the King of Burgundy. Knowing her sons only too well, Clotilde immediately tried to hide Clodomir’s sons from their uncles. She was able to hide only one in a monastery, the older two were killed by their uncles so they would not be in their way to the throne.
In grief, Clotilde left Paris and went to Tours, where she spent her life and her resources helping the poor. In 545, her two remaining sons went to war with each other. Clotilde spent the night before the battle in prayer. The next day, a huge hailstorm broke out and it was impossible for the combat- ants to fight each other. A month later, Clotilde died and, united in grief, her two sons buried their mother and lived the rest of their lives in peace with each other.
When there is dissention in the family, am I a peacemaker, a troublemaker, or a by-stander?
