Un ciclo di atte- si ed importanti confronti che si esauriscono, in rapida successione, in sole due settimane. La Nazionale, dunque, ritorna in campo. Dopo l’impegnativo tour estivo in Sudafrica, il quindici di Nick Mallett si presenta ad una serie di esami che mono- polizzano l’attenzione e l’interesse degli appassionati e non della palla ovale. Una stagione particolarmente intensa quella che nasce adesso in quanto, dopo essersi proiettata sul 6 Nazioni, si concluderà in Nuova Zelanda con la disputa della settima edi- zione della Coppa del Mondo. Quest’anno tre città, per la prima volta, abbracciano un evento rugbistico di così elevata valen- za. Il debutto è al Bentegodi di Verona contro l’Argentina, una formazione in ascesa che, da oltre due lustri, non riusciamo a superare fra le nostre mura amiche. Sarà questa l’occasione per riscattare l’opaca prestazione fornita, due anni orsono, a Torino. Quella con i Pumas è una sfida tradizionale e sentita alla luce dei legami umani e sportivi che ci uniscono al Paese sudamericano. Dopo il confronto con la compagine bianco-celeste i Cariparma Test Match si trasferiscono a Firenze dove gli azzurri arrivano con un anno di ritardo. In riva all’Arno l’Italia affronterà l’Australia, un quindici di grande spessore che occupa la piazza d’onore nel ranking mondiale. Il 27 novembre, infine, allo stadio Braglia di Modena gli azzurri di Mallett ospiteranno le Isole Figi in un test molto atteso in quanto l’Italia, in caso di successo, ha l’opportunità di superare, nella graduatoria mondiale, la formazione oceanica. Tre appuntamenti, pertanto, per diversi motivi da non perdere nel corso dei quali non verrà sicu- ramente meno il caldo sostegno del pubblico sempre numeroso e vicino alla Nazionale. Ai sostenitori azzurri va il mio ringraziamento più sentito per le manifestazioni di affetto che non ci hanno mai fatto mancare. Un grazie anche a tutti gli sponsor che ci accompagnano nel nostro percorso di maturazione ed in particolare a Cariparma Crédit Agricole che, oltre ad essere main sponsor, affida il proprio nome a questi prestigiosi confronti. Un pensiero di gratitudine va rivolto ai sindaci ed agli amministratori delle città di Verona, Firenze e Modena per l’ospitalità e la collaborazione dimostrate nei nostri confronti. Ci aspettano quindici giorni di stimolanti eventi che consentiranno ad una schiera di giovani atleti di mettersi in mostra e raccogliere consensi. E’ questa una ghiotta occasione per dimo- strare i progressi tecnici ed organizzativi raggiunti dal nostro movimento che, con il trascorre- re del tempo, acquista sempre più neofiti e riceve testimonianze di plauso.
