  • Wherever They Play, Boney Fields and the Bone's Project Leave Behind Them a Lasting Impression. Like a High Energy Gunpowder T
© Matthieu FAURE – Brenda TURNNIDGE Wherever they play, Boney Fields and The Bone’s Project leave behind them a lasting impression. Like a high energy gunpowder trail, dispensing a cross of blues and funk which unites and rallies the masses in a heavenly musical communion. Fronted by the dynamic, trumpet player, singer/songwriter Boney Fields, the combo has gained a bigger and bigger following. The bowler-hatted musician has come a long way since founding his own band, ten years ago. If he comes from Chicago Blues, he has expanded the contours with an iron willed determination. A lover of soul, groove, jazz, Boney Fields knows, as do certain other musicians of his generation, that the life of blues exists through constant evolution and rejuvenation. With humility and conviction, he follows his own path finding his own originality on the way. A man resolutely of his time, yet also immersed in the heritage of his musical forefathers, Boney Fields proves that the blues still has some great days ahead of it. Romain GROSMAN (Vibrations – Jazz News – Les Inrocks …) CHANGING FOR THE FUTURE BIOGRAPHY Boney Fields hails from the Chicago ghetto, where he was born at the end of the fifties. In his family, some played blues, others gospel. He studied jazz at In 1999 he produced « Hard Work » his college choosing the trumpet, « cause I first self produced album. • “Covering” the Bluesman from a Distance
Introduction In many ways, my journey towards this thesis topic began with my brother’s music collection. Throughout my teens he would introduce me to a wide range of local and international acts, many of which were influenced by African-American blues artists. This influence is evident in both their construction of sound and the old songs that they rerecorded. From there I began tracing musical influences from song credits and interview excerpts—a path often travelled by musicians and fans alike—that would eventually lead me to an appreciation of blues music. The penultimate step towards this topic came in the form of my honours thesis—a creative project that involved rerecording several tracks from the catalogue of an early Australian country music artist, one of which was titled “Blue Mountain Blues”.1 From there I turned to blues music in Australia. Initially conceived as a history of “Australian blues”, it became apparent that this proposed sub-genre struggled to unify and explain the disparate musical styles contained therein. Although each artist was clearly addressing the musical characteristics and influences I had come to recognise as “blues music”, it all sounded different. In the meantime, I developed a keen interest in a fellow colleague’s thesis topic that addressed the role of “covers” within the Australian music industry (Giuffre, 2005). My epiphany—and catalyst for the current thesis topic—eventually presented itself while viewing a live performance from Peter Green Splinter Group. The concert was split into two courses: an acoustic entrée featuring several Robert Johnson “covers”; and, an electric main with side dishes of early Fleetwood Mac material—the band Green had help found many years ago.

We have 10 Blues reviews for you this week including new music from Magic Slim & The Teardrops, Michael Mills, AWEK, Featured Interview – Lucky Peterson Wait a minute! That can’t possibly be true! Lucky Peterson is still a relatively young at age 55. How in the world could he be celebrating his 50th anniversary as a professional musician? As strange as that might seem, however, it’s a fact! Born Judge Kenneth Peterson on Dec. 13, 1964, in Buffalo, N.Y., and the fourth member of his family with Judge as a given name, Lucky was making final preparations before leaving for Brazil to kick off a world tour to celebrate his milestone as a blues Golden Ager can when Blues Blast caught up with him. One of four children born to guitarist and bar owner James Peterson, Lucky’s been blue from birth. Deeply influenced by Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King and Jimmy Reed, James Peterson was a juke joint owner’s son and grew up singing gospel in rural Alabama. A talented musician in his own right, he taught himself how to play the six-string after leaving home for Gary, Ind., at age 14. Possessing a gritty singing voice that reminded some folks of Wolf and others Freddie King, James relocated to western New York in 1955, working at Allied Chemical before running a used car lot by day and Governor’s Inn — a nightclub with the feel of a Southern juke – at night, opening it a few months after Lucky was born.

  • Oportunitat Única Per Veure En Directe Lucky Peterson

Every week without fail people ask me “Who (or what bands) should I go to see?” It all depends on what you are looking for Classic Rock, Blues, Country, or Dance. Here are some of my favorites, friends and people and acts that I would recommend and go to see myself. You can see many local music videos here: http://surfboardrecords.com/ Guitar: Dennis Wallace Dennis Wallace is the fearless leader of Corn Fused. He even picked the name of the band. After jokingly callin the "no name" band everything from Half Assed & Hole Hearted to Brokeback Mountain Boys - til that darn movie came out. Mr. Wallace finally settled on Corn Fused. The title of the new CD, also selected by Dennis is spoken like this - "OUT" [pause] standin' in their field. One of the most talented musicians in the area [heck we think in any area] Dennis is part musical master & part comedian. Ever the showman and entertainer, he never disappoints his audience. With his down home quips and physical talents on stage he's a delight, to not only listen to, but to watch. Dennis has been performing for, well let's just say, a LONG time. He's been a regular on our beaches for at least a hundred years. Ok well, maybe not 100. Besides performing with Corn Fused, he's also a regular in his Rock & Roll band, The Shark Attack Band with Rob Tyre and others. Just "The Sharks", as the locals call them, performing every Friday & Saturday night at Ricky T's on Treasure Island.
