A catalogue of the types of Lamiinae (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) housed in the Muséum d'histoire naturelle, Geneva. - A list is provided of 218 holotypes, the syntypes of 15 species and subspecies, and paratypes of 129 species and subspecies of the Lamiinae presently housed in the Muséum d'histoire naturelle, Geneva. Most of the names were published by S. Breuning. As the taxonomic treatment of the Lamiinae was often inade- quate it was necessary to check the original descriptions for all names listed. The authenticity of several "types" is found doubtful. They are indicated by "?HP" or "?PT". Unpublished information from labels is given in square brackets. Illegible handwritten text is indicated by the sign , When a description was published twice, a reference to the second description is given in parentheses. Separate lists are given for type material of varieties published before 1961, and for unavailable names published with designa- tion of type material. Key-words: Coleoptera - Cerambycidae - Lamiinae - type material. INTRODUCTION Le Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Genève (MHNG) possède une collection de Lamiinae qui compte quelques 5000 espèces. Elle consiste en une collection historique de A. Melly à laquelle se sont ajoutés les collections H. -A. Junot, R. Mussard, W. Siess, les récoltes faites par les entomologistes du Muséum ainsi que des lots importants cédés par S. Breuning. Cette collection contient de nombreux spécimens étiquetés holotype, paratype ou syntype. -

Mr. Sclater called the attention of the Meeting to several interest- ing species of Mammals and Birds observed during his recent visit to the Gardens of the SociCtC Zoologique d‘Acclimatation of Paris. Amongst these were particularly noticed an example of the Orys beisa of Riippell, being the only living specimen Mr. Sclater had seen of this fine Antelope, and some examples of the new variety of the Scemmering’s Pheasant lately described by Mr. Gould (Ann. N. H. ser. 3. vol. xvii. p. 150) as Phasiunus (Gruphophasianus) scin- tillans. It appeared that this variety had been received from Yoko- hama, Japan, while the ordinary Phasianus sminmeringii was stated to be found near Simoda, so that the probability was that these two birds were representative forms inhabiting different islands. Mr. Alfred Newton exhibited from the collection of William Borrer, Esq., F.L.S., a specimen of the Sylvia apzlatica of Latham, which had been obtained in England, as certified by the following note from that gentlemeu :- “My specimen was shot on the 19th of October, 1853, in an old brick-pit a little to the west of Hove, near Brighton, and was stuffed by Mr. H. -

Vol. 3, No. 2, June 2008___________ Scope: Munis Entomology & Zoology publishes a wide variety of papers on all aspects of Entomology and Zoology from all of the world, including mainly studies on systematics, taxonomy, nomenclature, fauna, biogeography, biodiversity, ecology, morphology, behavior, conservation, paleobiology and other aspects are appropriate topics for papers submitted to Munis Entomology & Zoology. Submission of Manuscripts: Works published or under consideration elsewhere (including on the internet) will not be accepted. At first submission, one double spaced hard copy (text and tables) with figures (may not be original) must be sent to the Editors, Dr. Hüseyin Özdikmen for publication in MEZ. All manuscripts should be submitted as Word file or PDF file in an e-mail attachment. If electronic submission is not possible due to limitations of electronic space at the sending or receiving ends, unavailability of e-mail, etc., we will accept “hard” versions, in triplicate, accompanied by an electronic version stored in a floppy disk, a CD-ROM. Review Process: When submitting manuscripts, all authors provides the name, of at least three qualified experts (they also provide their address, subject fields and e-mails). Then, the editors send to experts to review the papers. The review process should normally be completed within 45-60 days. After reviewing papers by reviwers: Rejected papers are discarded. For accepted papers, authors are asked to modify their papers according to suggestions of the reviewers and editors. Final versions of manuscripts and figures are needed in a digital format. -
Insect Species Described from Alfred Russel Wallace's Sarawak Collections
Malayan Nature Journal 2006, 57(4), 433 - 462 Insect species described from Alfred Russel Wallace's Sarawak collections ANDREW POLASZEKl* and EARL OF CRANBROOK2 Abstract In just over a year spent in Sarawak (1854-1856) Wallace collected over 25,000 insect specimens; by his estimate, these represented over 5,000 species. About two-fifths of these were beetles, and over 200 of these were formally described in the 1850's and 60's, largely by 1.S. Baly and F.P. Pascoe. Nearly 400 species of moths from Wallace's Sarawak collections, including over 100 new genera, were described by Francis Walker. Fredrick Smith described 150 Hymenoptera from these collections, and taking into account Diptera and Hemiptera from the same collections, this brings the total number of insect species described to well in excess of 1,000. INTRODUCTION Alfred Russel Wallace has a reputation as an extremely prolific collector of plants and animals from many parts of the world, notably the Amazon Basin and the Malay Archipelago. His relatively brief period collecting in a geographically limited area of Sarawak on the island ofBomeo dramatically illustrates his abilities as a co llector and field taxonomist, able to recognise differences between species across a huge range of diverse insect orders. Wallace in Sarawak Alfred Russel Wallace arrived in Sarawak on 1st November 1854 and left on January 25th 1856 (Wallace, 1869). In a little more than a year, and in a rather limited geographical area of southwestern Sarawak (fig. 1), with the aid of Charles Allen and various local assistants, Wallace collected and shipped back to London more than 25,000 insect specimens. -

Longhorned beetles include the family Cerambycidae, although some taxonomists treat certain subfamilies as families. In this catalog, the work of Lawrence and Newton (1995) is followed which recognizes thirteen subfamilies in the world: Oxypeltinae, Disteniinae, Philinae, Anoplodermatinae, Parandrinae, Prioninae, Spondylidinae, Vesperinae, Apatophyseinae, Necydalinae, Lepturinae, Cerambycinae and Lamiinae. There has been, and certainly will always be disagreement on the number and relationships of these subfamilies. -

Schenkel leicht gekeult. Hinterschenkel den Hinterrand des 2. Abdominalsegmentes stets deutlich überragend. Mittelschienen mit Dorsalfurche. -

A Catalog and Bibliography of Longhorned Beetles from Borneo (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, Disteniidae and Vesperidae) Electronic Version, 2013.1 by Daniel J. Heffern Abstract A catalog and bibliography are presented for the longhorned beetles of Borneo. All genus-group names (including subgenera and synonyms) and species-group names (including synonyms) of taxa known from Borneo are summarized. The type species for each genus-group name is specified with the method by which its type species was designated. Species-group names include the name of the genus used in the original description. The full distribution of each species or subspecies which occurs in Borneo is included. Citations of original descriptions and bibliographies are provided for all taxa. Species which have been incorrectly recorded from Borneo are listed. Introduction In recent years, taxonomists have separated longhorned beetles into three families: the Cerambycidae, Disteniidae and Vesperidae. These beetles are popular with collectors, entomologists, and naturalists, for many reasons including their striking appearance, diversity, relationship with host plants and interaction with other species, including mimetic behavior. Borneo, which has not been heavily collected, still contains many species that are undescribed or difficult to identify. In the past 20 years, Mr. Steven Bosuang has provided many specimens of all Coleoptera to the scientific community which has resulted in dozens of publications concerning the fauna of Northern Borneo. The purpose of this catalog is to present a consolidated list of all known longhorned beetles from Borneo. Some unpublished records are included, mostly from the collection of the author, which have been identified by the author or other specialists. -
