As a result of the political transition, one of the most important factors in Hunga- ry’s lag in football talent development seems to be the weakness in management. The positions of talent de- velopment are best in the independent talent development (junior) clubs mostly because these clubs have no senior teams and therefore all attention is paid to the youth. The lack of success of the past 20 years or so in this sport clearly shows that Hungarian football is heading in the wrong direction. It is time to approach the issue of talent development in Hungarian football in a different manner. In this paper, we provide sug- gestions for improvement. This „brand” is not just known around the world, but respected and loved. Puskás became a world star in a time when there was no Internet and television had just started gaining popularity. But why did he become so great, not only as a player but as a brand too? The article looks for the marketing aspects of this brilliant story. It covers his celebrity endorsements/sponsors, and the products/brands which used or use his (brand) name. The possible future of the Puskás brand is also discussed. Keywords: Ferenc Puskás, football, personal branding, celebrity endorsement, merchandising 1. Introduction: the greatest Hungarian football player Ferenc Puskás (1927-2006), without a doubt is the greatest Hungarian football player of all times. Even though it was not him, who wore the Hungarian national shirt the most times, having scored 84 times in 85 matches is still an outstanding performance. This is especially true since he did not return after the 1956 revolution, thus only played a little more than ten years for the national team (and appeared four times in the Spanish national team). His most memorable move is probably the “drag-back” goal against England, when Hungary won for 6:3. It is not a coincidence that in 2009 FIFA established the Puskás award for the most beautiful goal.

Having closely examined the question of the marketing of TV for the UEFA Champions League, the European Commission has now recognised the importance of central selling for maintaining solidarity in European football and also for the brand identity of the UEFA Champions League. By including centralised marketing for live TV rights in the wider agree- ment reached with UEFA, the European Commission is the first competition authority in Europe to officially recognise this system. For UEFA, as well as other sports federations and the national associations, this is an important step. This agreement also goes to show that, through dialogue, the authorities of the European Union and of sport have achieved better mutual understanding.

DANUBE: Law and Economics Review, 5 (2), 105–125 105 DOI: 10.2478/danb-2014-0006 CHALLENGES TO PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL COMPANIES AND THEIR ANSWERS WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES Éva Bába Ms Bács1 Abstract Professional football has been going through a period of unprecedented economic growth since the ’90s. Football ventures are increasingly becoming medium-sized companies. There have also been organizational changes, reflected in changes in the legal forms of professional football clubs, and in the use of modern controlling, planning, risk and finan- cial management. Important questions remain unanswered with regard to the financing of football clubs, such as the impact of risks or the market value of capital costs. In addition to liquidity and the above, the acceptance of the determinational dependence of certain capital funds on sports results and the development of a strategy suitable for the optimal target system are also important requirements. In this article, we would like to present the answers football companies have given to the challenges they have been facing which affect their organisational system. In the light of international comparison, we examine the status of Hungarian football, which was once world famous and enjoyed better times in the past. Keywords Professional Football, Legal Forms, Organizational Structure, Controlling, Controlling System Building in Football Undertakings I. Introduction Since the 1990s, professional football has undergone an unprecedented economic resur- gence worldwide.
