Premiership wise, this was one of our best seasons for a long time and congratulations to the following victorious teams – 10F, 10A, 12A, 16C, B2’s and B3’s Commiserations to the 14D’s who were beaten by the better side on the day. Playing numbers were fairly similar to last season. We fielded 11 junior teams and 7 senior teams. Most pleasing was the number of U10 sides, 4 in total. These players are the future of the club and I believe our good relationship with the other local winter codes helps us to attract the young boys and girls to the game of cricket. Like other sports the game has had to re define itself and work towards accommodating people’s changing lifestyles. In recognition of time poor parents cricket Australia, NSW Cricket and the local association have implemented changed formats. The initial stages commenced this season and saw the scrapping of the U8 competition and introduction of the Saturday morning T20 Blast held at Kareela playing fields. We fielded a combined U8 team with the Como club and from what I saw the T20 blast was a successful introduction to those new to cricket. Other changes were introduced to the U10 age group. Reduced field sizes, overs and team numbers were the major parts adapted. General feedback seems to be fairly positive towards these changes. Next year my understanding is the U12 age group will also have some format changes to provide greater participation. The season also saw the transition from the Cricket Online Scoring software to MyCricket. There were the usual problems with moving to other software platforms however at season’s end everyone seemed to have adapted to the new scoring software. While mentioning Cricket Online I would like to personally thank its architect and developer Tom Croucher. Tom spent many years with various junior clubs in the shire as well as on the SSJCA. Cricket Online was perfectly adapted to the Shire’s cricketers. As they say you don’t miss something until it has gone and this year showed that especially in the earlier part. We have a couple of ex Dragon’s juniors going great guns in the cricketing world. Nick Amos, in his second year of grade cricket with the Sutherland club, made his debut in first grade mid way through the season. Well done Nick, your hard work and dedication shows what can be achieved. Another ex-Dragons junior Ben Dwarshuis had a fantastic year with the Sydney Sixers in this season’s Big Bash and was rewarded by being picked up in the Indian Premier League by the Kings X1 Punjab franchise. Ben was also selected in the Australian T20 Squad. Another couple of our players were awarded life memberships. Congratulations to Matt Carroll and Chris Moreland on your achievement. ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 7 ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 8 Once again we saw a dramatic increase in organisations sponsoring our club. A huge thanks goes to Tim Russell and Chris Moreland who keep on bringing the sponsors in. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the sponsors of the club. They are listed in this yearbook. Thank you also to all the parents who put their hands up to coach, manage, grade, select and help out with their respective teams. The game does not function without your input. I would like to thank our executive - Neil Croker, Brad Moreland and Col Berry for your tireless efforts. Thank you also to Doug & Michelle Ritchie, Anthony Goodman and John Westlake for the time spent carrying out your committee roles. Thank you to Ian Latham who put the yearbook together and made it possible. It was also nice to see Ian back again coaching one of our junior teams after a rest for one season. Well done to those players finishing their junior careers. Good luck with those moving on to senior cricket whether that is playing local men’s cricket, Shires or Grade Cricket. I’m sure you will have fond memories of your time in juniors with the Dragons. In closing let me once again thank everyone for their contributions to another successful season. All the club news and events are available via our website and Facebook page. The Club looks forward to seeing you again next season. Commiserations to our 14D’s who were beaten in the Final after having an outstanding season finishing as Minor Premiers. Prior to the start of the season the SSJCA & SSCA decided to move onto MyCricket to align with the requirements of CNSW. This had a major impact on our registration process and I would like to thank Michelle Ritchie and Ian Latham for entering all the player registrations into MyCricket. Congratulations to Chris Moreland and Matthew Carroll on becoming the club’s 32nd & 33rd Life Members. Both players started playing for the club in 1993/94 and have continued to play the past 25 years. After 8 seasons as the Clubs Uniform Officer, Anthony Goodman has decided to step down. During this period Anthony was instrumental in introducing the Club’s new Supporter Shirts and Jackets.

  • Statistics Booklet 2015-16
Statistics Booklet 2015-16 Premier League Statistician Report prepared by Bob Cotgrove Cricket Tasmania Premier League (CTPL) First Grade Activity. [see Table 1] Despite generally fine weather throughout the summer this season’s First Grade activity, measured by the total balls bowled, 41175, was the lowest for 5 seasons when wet weather restricted the 2010- 11 season to just 38739 balls. Last season 42724 balls were bowled and three summers ago, in the 2012-13 season, 47794 balls were bowled, an extra 1103 overs. Partly this reduction in activity may be due to a decrease in the number of scheduled matches, from 21 matches (complete round-robin matches in each of the three formats, Twenty20, One-Day and Two-Day) in 2012-13 to just 17 matches this season (5 matches in each of the Twenty20 and One-Day formats and 7 matches in the Two-Day format). A total of 25738 runs were scored, the lowest since the 2010-11 season, for the loss of 1139 wickets, the lowest since the 2009-10 season. The number of runs scored per wicket lost, 22.60, was slightly higher than the previous 3 seasons but continues the trend of consistency in the low 20s range. The scoring rate of 62.51 runs per 100 balls was comparable with recent seasons in the low 60s range, considerably higher than the trend for scoring rates to be below 50 runs per 100 balls that prevailed prior to the mid-1990s. Given the consistency of runs per wicket, the generally higher scoring rate is mirrored by the generally lower loss rate of 36.15 balls per wicket this season.
