An afternoon tour of Frederiksborg Slot and Gardens on the outskirts of Copenhagen. The castle now houses the National Portrait Gallery, but it was originally built by King Christian IV and is the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia. The extensive Baroque Gardens built by Frederick IV in the 1720 are the highlight for us at Frederiksborg. Architect J.C. Krieger laid out the symmetrical gardens, which are aligned with the castles main axis, extending into the landscape. Though the garden has undergone alterations throughout the years, it was restored in the 1990s and is complete with the cascades and formal parterre flowerbeds. There is also a lovely English garden on the grounds of Frederikborg. Dinner on your own in Copenhagen Tuesday, June 18, 2019 Breakfast at the hotel A morning visit to the Queens residence, Fredensborg Slot where we will visit the Queen’s private Royal Garden and Orangery, which are not generall open to the public.
