The team, which will begin competition in the 2019 season, will be known as the Oakville Buzz. "It is my pleasure to report the unanimous vote bringing the Oakville Buzz Lacrosse Club into our league beginning in 2019," said OJALL Commissioner Dean McLeod. "This is a positive addition to Junior "A" lacrosse as the Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association continues, year after year, to produce some of the finest lacrosse players in all of Canada. On behalf of the Junior "A" Board of Governors, I extend a warm welcome to Sam Rook and the entire Buzz organization." The Oakville Buzz began competition as an expansion team in the Ontario Junior “B” Lacrosse League (OJBLL) in 2001, and has consistently competed as a playoff team since the 2003 season. The franchise found success in 2006 by capturing the Founders Cup Junior “B” Lacrosse Championship of Canada title. “"The Buzz are excited to join the OJALL in 2019 and compete in the best junior lacrosse league in the World. We look forward to this great challenge and competing for Minto Cups with the great support of the Oakville Lacrosse community."” said Rook. Throughout the transaction process, OLA VP of Junior to Major Box Lacrosse Jim Bomhof provided advisory services between the league and the Oakville Buzz organization.

    ONTARIO LACROSSE ASSOCIATION 1 Concorde Gate Suite 200-C, Box 51 Toronto, ON M3C 3N6 416-426-7066 [email protected] Statement on Cancellation of Box Lacrosse Games June 29-30 June 30, 2019 In response to a second serious incident involving a box lacrosse referee in as many weeks, the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA), in conjunction with the officiating community and the commissioners of each Junior and Senior league, were left with no choice but to cancel a select number of scheduled games while representatives of the OLA’s Board of Directors met with representatives of the officiating community to address the current climate of box lacrosse in Ontario. Following receipt of reports outlining a serious incident involving a player participating in an Ontario Series Lacrosse game on June 28th, 2019, the decision was made to cancel a league game scheduled for June 29th, 2019 between the Brooklin Merchants and the visiting Six Nations Rivermen. The decision to cancel this Ontario Series Game game was made by Jim Bomhof (OLA VP Junior-Major) in direct response to the serious incident which took place in the parking lot following the June 28th game. When a number of OLA referees expressed that they felt unsafe working games for which they were scheduled, league commissioners were left with no choice but to cancel additional games that could not be filled, despite everyone’s best efforts working up until game time to ensure that as many games as possible would be played. A meeting (which was previously scheduled to address the first referee incident) between representatives from the OLA’s Board of Directors and leaders in the referee community took place on June 29th, 2019 in Cambridge, Ontario.

    WELCOME BACK TO IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU AGAIN 1 | 12 a message from ONTARIO LACROSSE about this Return to Play Guide The Ontario Lacrosse Association is proud to be a leading lacrosse community both at home in Canada and throughout the world where our members can enjoy, value and celebrate the benefits of active participation and excellence in women’s field lacrosse, minor & men’s field lacrosse and box lacrosse. Since 1994, lacrosse has been declared Canada’s Official Summer Sport. It is a fundamental part of our heritage, and we look forward to being together again to play, coach, officiate and watch this great game. In January of 2020, the Province of Ontario identified the first recorded case of COVID-19 in Canada. Since that time, the world we knew changed drastically. The OLA’s Board of Directors and Return to Activity Task Force members carefully examined available resources to eventually navigate the process for and possibility of returning to play, while remaining committed to our foundation of prioritizing the health, safety and wellbeing of the Ontario Lacrosse community. As the final installment of our Return to Activity series, this Game On! Guide lays out the general requirements to create a safe environment to protect our sanctioned members at all levels and disciplines of play. We recognize that players, coaches, officials, team support staff and administrators will all need to make adjustments as we transition back to play in the middle of our traditional lacrosse season, and our path will be guided by common sense and flexibility throughout the 2021 season.
