The team, which will begin competition in the 2019 season, will be known as the Oakville Buzz. "It is my pleasure to report the unanimous vote bringing the Oakville Buzz Lacrosse Club into our league beginning in 2019," said OJALL Commissioner Dean McLeod. "This is a positive addition to Junior "A" lacrosse as the Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association continues, year after year, to produce some of the finest lacrosse players in all of Canada. On behalf of the Junior "A" Board of Governors, I extend a warm welcome to Sam Rook and the entire Buzz organization." The Oakville Buzz began competition as an expansion team in the Ontario Junior “B” Lacrosse League (OJBLL) in 2001, and has consistently competed as a playoff team since the 2003 season. The franchise found success in 2006 by capturing the Founders Cup Junior “B” Lacrosse Championship of Canada title. “"The Buzz are excited to join the OJALL in 2019 and compete in the best junior lacrosse league in the World. We look forward to this great challenge and competing for Minto Cups with the great support of the Oakville Lacrosse community."” said Rook. Throughout the transaction process, OLA VP of Junior to Major Box Lacrosse Jim Bomhof provided advisory services between the league and the Oakville Buzz organization.

  • Becoming Christian: Personhood and Moral Cosmology in Acholi South
Becoming Christian: Personhood and Moral Cosmology in Acholi South Sudan Ryan Joseph O’Byrne Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Department of Anthropology, University College London (UCL) September, 2016 1 DECLARATION I, Ryan Joseph O’Byrne, confirm that the work presented in this thesis is my own. Where material has been derived from other sources I confirm that this has been indicated in the thesis. Ryan Joseph O’Byrne, 21 September 2016 2 ABSTRACT This thesis examines contemporary entanglements between two cosmo-ontological systems within one African community. The first system is the indigenous cosmology of the Acholi community of Pajok, South Sudan; the other is the world religion of evangelical Protestantism. Christianity has been in the region around 100 years, and although the current religious field represents a significant shift from earlier compositions, the continuing effects of colonial and early missionary encounters have had significant impact. This thesis seeks to understand the cosmological transformations involved in all these encounters. This thesis provides the first in-depth account of South Sudanese Acholi – a group almost entirely absent from the ethnographic record. However, its largest contributions come through wider theoretical and ethnographic insights gained in attending to local Acholi cosmological, ontological, and experiential orientations. These contributions are: firstly, the connection of Melanesian ideas of agency and personhood to Africa, demonstrating not only the relational nature of Acholi personhood but an understanding of agency acknowledging nonhuman actors; secondly, a demonstration of the primarily relational nature of local personhood whereby Acholi and evangelical persons and relations are similarly structured; and thirdly, an argument that, in South Sudan, both systems are ultimately about how people organise the moral fabric of their society.

George McLaughlin donated the Athol Street Scout Hall building in 1942 and a Cabin Camp for the 7th Oshawa Scout Troop. This 7th Oshawa cabin was built on the Nesbit farm, on the east side of Ritson Road. The George McLaughlin farm was one concession south at 261Simoce St, Oshawa. George William McLaughlin died on 10 October 1942 and is interred in the Oshawa Union Cemetery so he never saw his 7th Oshawa Scout Camp Donation completed in 1943. Samuel Edward Mack Soanes was born on June 15, 1892 in Lindsay, Ontario. The 1St Oshawa Scout Group was founded in 1909 just two years after the birth of the Scouting movement in England by Lt. George McLaughlin was also the Secretary and Treasurer of the McLaughlin Motor Works and the Assistant Scoutmaster of this 1909 Scout Group (actually George McLaughlin would have been the Scoutmaster and Mack Soanes the Assistant because Mack was only 17 years old in 1909).In later years, in the 1920’s Mack Soanes was the Post Master of the Indian River Post Office.

A Lexicon of Alchemy by Martin Rulandus the Elder Translated by Arthur E. Waite John M. Watkins London 1893 / 1964 (250 Copies) A Lexicon of Alchemy or Alchemical Dictionary Containing a full and plain explanation of all obscure words, Hermetic subjects, and arcane phrases of Paracelsus. by Martin Rulandus Philosopher, Doctor, and Private Physician to the August Person of the Emperor. [With the Privilege of His majesty the Emperor for the space of ten years] By the care and expense of Zachariah Palthenus, Bookseller, in the Free Republic of Frankfurt. 1612 PREFACE To the Most Reverend and Most Serene Prince and Lord, The Lord Henry JULIUS, Bishop of Halberstadt, Duke of Brunswick, and Burgrave of Luna; His Lordship’s mos devout and humble servant wishes Health and Peace. In the deep considerations of the Hermetic and Paracelsian writings, that has well-nigh come to pass which of old overtook the Sons of Shem at the building of the Tower of Babel. For these, carried away by vainglory, with audacious foolhardiness to rear up a vast pile into heaven, so to secure unto themselves an immortal name, but, disordered by a confusion and multiplicity of barbarous tongues, were ingloriously forced. In like manner, the searchers of Hermetic works, deterred by the obscurity of the terms which are met with in so many places, and by the difficulty of interpreting the hieroglyphs, hold the most noble art in contempt; while others, desiring to penetrate by main force into the mysteries of the terms and subjects, endeavour to tear away the concealed truth from the folds of its coverings, but bestow all their trouble in vain, and have only the reward of the children of Shem for their incredible pain and labour.

  • Ontario Lacrosse Association in Memoriam Ruby Lang, Mimico Mountaineers Matriach, Passes Away
ONTARIO LACROSSE IN ASSOCIATION MEMORIAM Posted: March 16th, 2021 Updated: March 19th, 2021 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - RUBY LANG, MIMICO MOUNTAINEERS MATRIACH, PASSES AWAY TORONTO, ON – The Ontario Lacrosse Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Ruby Lang early this morning. The beloved matriarch of the Mimico Mountaineers Lacrosse Club, Ruby is an inspiration to everyone involved in continuing the hard work she dedicated to the club for over 50 years. An OLA Merv MacKenzie Award recipient (1990), OLA Life Member (1993), Thomas “Tip” Teather Trophy winner (2000), Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame Inductee (2002, Builder Category), the first ever OLA Golden Stick Award recipient marking 50 Years of Volunteer Service to the OLA (2017), Ruby was well-recognized by many in the lacrosse community for her countless contributions to the game. In 2008, Ruby Lang was honoured by the City of Toronto, alongside her best friend, Barb Cormier (pictured next to her in each of the photos on the following page), for their contributions to lacrosse in Mimico with streets named in their honour. Always together, and rarely apart, City Councillor Mark Grimes made sure that the streets Barb Cormier Heights and Ruby Lang Lane intersected. Despite being the recipient of so many lauded awards, Ruby preferred to work quietly in the background as a tireless volunteer of both the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame & Museum and the Mimico Mountaineers Minor Lacrosse Club. Known by everyone who passed through Mimico Arena and its outdoor predecessor, the Drummond Street Bowl, Ruby’s cheerful smile greeted lacrosse families from across the province who had the privilege of knowing her.
