Nuit de la Glisse was born at the end of the 70’s by a group of inspired visionaries, giving birth to a true social phenomenon, today known under the French term «Glisse». Today, the ‘Nuit de la Glisse’ films embody the origins of this trend, and have evol- ved over the last 3 decades to encompass newly emerging glisse sports, while at the same time, documenting the amazing and exciting developments in our original passions, surfing and snow sports. By gathering together all the different sports fans to one common and unique event for the last 35 years at cinema halls across the whole of Europe, Nuit de la Glisse has positioned itself as a legitimate and recogni- zable brand. The event consists, above all, of a previously unreleased film featuring ‘glisse’ sports such as surfing, skiing, snowboarding, base jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding and many more, filmed in breathtaking settings all around the planet. THIERRY DONARD film director Passionate about action sports since he was 5 years old, Thierry made his first ski film at 13. In 1978 he met someone who would change his life: Dick Barrymore, an American film director and action sports film pioneer in the U.S. Thierry worked alongside him for 10 years. In 1984 he created with his avant-garde group of skier and surfer friends the first film released under the label “Nuit de la Glisse”, the first 90-minute feature-length film dedicated to actions sports to be broadcasted on TV in France. He then continued between 1989-94 with the concept series “Pushing the Limits”. In 1996 he relaunched the “Nuit de la Glisse” series with the intention of extending his films to cinema theaters and conso- lidated his project since then. These films are now part of one of the biggest European extreme sport labels with the biggest distribution network throughout Europe. Before the term enduro was coined every country had its own name for the sport. The first European title in "regolarità", as it was called in Italy, was taken by Husqvarna in 1982 with Italian Gualtiero Brissoni in the saddle. After several European titles were taken by iconic names such as Thomas Gustavsson and Sven Erik Jonsson, in 1990 the sport was given the title World Enduro Championship by the FIM and Otakar Kotrba won the honour for Husqvarna, the first in a long series. To date Husqvarna has taken 49 world enduro titles and a total of 82 in motocross, enduro and supermotard events in the company's 100+ year history. Enduro is endurance, in all conditions with special tests over different types of terrain. Both rider and bike must reach the finish line after many hours of off-road trails without any external assistance apart from the brief time controls. It is the experience gained from these victories that has produced the Husqvarna enduro series, which year by year incorporate the technical advances made on the tracks. In 2012 Husqvarna will officially compete in the Enduro World Championship, represented by Team CH Racing, and will also be present at major national events in Spain, France, Germany, UK, Italy, the U.S., Australia and Japan.

EXTREME SPORTS AND EXTREME LIABILITY: THE EFFECT OF WAIVERS OF LIABILITY IN EXTREME SPORTS Amanda Greer INTRODUCTION Imagine that a skier in a base jumping competition is about ready to jump off a cliff. Once the skier jumps off the cliff, usually the bindings of the skis will come off and the parachute will open, enabling a safe landing. However, in this situation, the bindings of the skis come off, but the parachute fails to open. The skier subsequently crashes to the ground, sustaining extremely serious injuries that leave the skier para- lyzed. As a result of the injuries, the skier files an action against the sponsors' involved in putting on the competition, claiming that they were negligent in giving him a defective parachute. The sponsors as- sert that the skier signed a liability waiver barring all claims, even negligence.

Trespass and premises liability, however, are unlikely associations. Yet for many Californian youths, the newest Olympic sport, bicycle motocross (BMX), involves just that.' Due to the inadequate availability of BMX facilities, participants in the sport are left with few options: travel great distances to participate, create their own facilities while trespassing, or, if they have the resources, construct facilities on private lands-which often subjects landowners to unreasonable liability. As a society, we should promote participation in all types of sports by making facilities readily available to youths. The rigors of athletic participation prepare children for the challenges of life.2 Additionally, athletic participation is socially desirable for people of all ages because it improves participants' physical and mental well- being.3 Beyond the obvious health benefits of exercise,4 athletics 1.
