Lake Compounce Finalizes 2020 Schedule, Extends Season Passes Through 2021 Lake Compounce Family Theme & Water Park Will Conclude 2020 Season on Labor Day MEDIA CONTACT: Amy Thomas [email protected] 860-583-3300 x6902 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lake Compounce Finalizes 2020 Schedule, Extends Season Passes Through 2021 Lake Compounce Family Theme & Water Park will conclude 2020 season on Labor Day BRISTOL/SOUTHINGTON, CT – A roller coaster of a season at Lake Compounce will come to a close next month. Lake Compounce will finish its 2020 season with a final day of operations on Labor Day, Monday, September 7. To show appreciation for our Season Passholders’ support, Lake Compounce will extend all 2020 Silver, Gold & Gold Deluxe Season Passes to include the 2021 Season. “We are so grateful for our amazing team, as well as our guests, for adapting to these extraordinary times. Without their efforts, this year would not have been possible,” said Lake Compounce General Manager Larry Gorneault. “Our Team Members have been tireless in implementing enhanced health and safety measures to create the cleanest and safest environment possible for our guests. We’ll wrap up this season on a high note on Labor Day, and start getting ready for 2021.” The extension for 2020 Silver, Gold, and Gold Deluxe Season Passholders is automatic and will include the entire 2021 Summer Season. Extended Passholders will also be able to visit during Lake Compounce’s 2021 Halloween and Holiday events, which will not take place this year. Guests who previously purchased a 2021 Season Pass Extension will receive a credit equal to the price paid for the extension product. Beyond the return of the popular Haunted Graveyard and Holiday Lights events, Lake Compounce will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2021 with the debut of the Venus Vortex water slide. Delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the park’s largest water slide to date will stand six stories high in bold, bright green and yellow colors to offer an experience never before seen in New England. Venus Vortex is slated to open with the rest of Crocodile Cove on Memorial Day weekend 2021. Taking advantage of the shorter season, Lake Compounce and Crocodile Cove will also receive aesthetic upgrades around the park during the offseason. There is still time to enjoy some summer fun this year, though! Lake Compounce will be open daily through Sunday, August 23 and each weekend, plus Labor Day, through September 7, 2020. The park is open 11 a.m. -7 p.m. each day. Lake Compounce continues to offer heavily discounted single-day admission for the remainder of the summer. In naming Quassy as one of his Publisher’s Picks for 2015, Slade noted that Quassy owners George Frantzis II and Eric Anderson have spent most of their lives at the lakeside property. “Today, both George Frantzis II and Eric Anderson oversee daily operations of the park and have been credited with the rebirth of the property and development of its new Splash Away Bay waterpark,” Slade said before presenting the award. “The two seasoned park owners set the stage in 2002 to rebuild itself with a $6 million multi- year redevelopment plan,” he added. The investment included the opening of the first phase of the waterpark in 2003 and led to the eventual building of its marquee attraction: Wooden Warrior roller coaster, which debuted in 2011. “Without their vision, Quassy – in operation since 1908 - could have met the fate of many New England parks of yesteryear and ceased to exist. But George Frantzis II and Eric Anderson did not let that happen. They reinvested and rebuilt to bring record revenues to Quassy, thus keeping the turnstile turning.

The movie crew had been shooting parts of the film nearby in Massachusetts and the script called for a scene featuring two of the principal characters in an amusement park setting, specifically riding “tea-cups.” Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet and award-winning actor Josh Brolin were the focus of the scene. “Our team worked with the production coordinator to ensure that their experience filming in our great state of New Hampshire was smooth and seamless,” said Chris Nicoli, Canobie’s Marketing and Entertainment Manager. “Canobie Lake Park has been used as a location in other film and television productions over 1 the years, both as a setting and as a featured subject. In this case, we were able to accommodate a major motion picture company that needed just the right look of a classic family amusement Park for the scene.” Canobie’s staff arrived at the Park at 3AM on an August Friday morning to get ready for the arrival of the tractor-trailers of equipment and a full production crew that arrived shortly thereafter. Lighting, cameras, monitors and other essential equipment were put in place in the center of the Park. Test shots were made and extras were put into costume and make-up. The key actors then arrived, the scene was shot and the crew wrapped up after nearly six hours of work before the Park’s scheduled opening of 11AM.
