Vale Tudo Fighting Rules Updated 1st January 2005 1. Fighting area The fight takes place in a boxing ring. The boxing ring must be raised from the floor and it must have four ropes. 2. Beginning the fight The fighters start opposite each other in standing position. 3. Allowed techniques 1. While in upright position and barefoot, the fighter is allowed to kick to head, body and legs. If the fighter is wearing wrestling shoes, he is allowed to kick to body and legs only. 2. While in upright position it is allowed to punch to head, body and legs. 3. Knee techniques to head, body and legs are allowed during the standing fight. 4. Fighter is no longer in upright position if any other body part than the feet is touching the ground. 5. Elbow strikes are allowed to body and legs. 6. Elbow strikes to head are allowed only in A-class contests. 7. While fighting on the floor one is allowed to use techniques of wrestling, judo and jiu-jitsu. 8. The wrestling, judo and jiu-jitsu techniques may also be used in standing position. 9. Punches to head are allowed in all situations. Standing, sitting or lying down. 10. If both fighters are on the floor both are allowed to use kicking techniques to the head. 11. During the ground fight knee techniques are allowed only to body and legs. 12. If one is standing and the other is not in upright position, the fighter who stands is not allowed to kick or knee to the head.

Common Soccer Terminology -- A -- Advantage rule - A clause in the rules that allows the referee to refrain from stopping play for a foul if a stoppage would benefit the team that committed the violation. See "Play on". Assist - the pass or passes that precede a goal. A maximum of two assists can be allocated for one goal. Attacking midfielder - the most forward-playing midfielder, playing right behind the forwards; he supports the offense by providing passes to forwards to set up goals. "Away" - clear the ball out of the area it is in, usually the Penalty Area (PA) -- B -- Back - a defender. Back heel - A ball played with the back of the foot to a teammate. Back tackle - An attempt by a defender to take the ball away from a ball carrier by swinging the defender's leg in front of the ball from behind. This is an illegal tackle and could result in carding or a free kick. Banana Kick - A kick (usually a long corner kick) that curves so much that it take the shape of a banana. The idea is to curve the ball from the corner directly into the goal. Bending Runs - runs made by players on the team with the ball that are not straight. If you run straight down the field in front of a teammate you can not receive a pass since your back is to the passer. By making a bending run you are always in a position "open" to a pass. Bending the ball - Striking the ball with an off-center kick so that it travels in a curved path; also known as a banana kick.

Developed by African slaves in Brazil and once an exclusively male domain, capoeira was viewed as a social threat and severely persecuted through the 19th century. By the mid 20th century capoeira had come to be celebrated as an element of national identity, and today the practice crosses class, ethnic, gender and national boundaries. Among its myriad definitions, capoeira is conceived of as “play”: two participants “play” in a ring, or roda, surrounded by other participants and accompanied by percussive music and singing. Interaction oscillates between playful cooperation and aggressive confrontation as partner-adversaries attempt to outmaneuver each other, claim space, and demonstrate greater corporal expression, intelligence and creativity. A bounded ritual space, the roda is also contiguous with the external world, as is evident in claims that skills learned in the roda carry into everyday life. This ethnographic study, based on two years of fieldwork in Rio de Janeiro and my ongoing involvement as a practitioner, approaches capoeira as embodied play and a social practice that constitutes a particular type of engagement with the world: cultivating intelligent, expressive bodies through training and play, and forging collective identities and fictive kinship ties through group affiliation, practitioners become “capoeiristas,” and in so doing reshape themselves and their relationships to their environment and people within it.

Page | 1 ASSOCIATION OF BOXING COMMISSION AMATEUR MIXED MARTIAL ARTS Split or different style events Cards split between professional and amateur matches shall be left at the discretion of the sanctioning Commissions. National Database Event Registration All Promoters are required to register in a timely manner, their event in advance with the Association of Boxing Commissions designated national record keeper, MMA.TV, and receive approval from this agency for each specific requested bout. Weight classes of amateur mixed martial artists (a) Amateur mixed martial artist shall be divided into the following classes: 01- Flyweight (125-and Under) with not more than a 10 pound spread 02- Bantamweight (126-135) 03- Featherweight (136-145) 04- Lightweight (146-155) 05- Welterweight (156-170) 06- Middleweight (171-185) 07- Light Heavyweight (186-205) 08- Cruiser Heavyweight (206-230) 09- Heavy Weight (231-265) 10- Super Heavyweight over (265) Weighing of mixed martial artists Weigh in will be determined at the discretion of the sanctioning Commissions. Cage All amateur contests will take place in a cage or ring left at the discretion of the sanctioning Commissions. All rings must adhere to a minimum of five ropes as a standard safety precaution. Equipment The appropriate equipment shall be approved at the discretion of the sanctioning Commissions. Specifications for bandages on mixed martial artists’ hands All mixed martial arts contestants shall be required to gauze and tape their hands prior to all contests. The festivities began with the traditional ASH Wednesday dinner sponsored by The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes at Annie Moore's, and continued with the Christopher Morley Walk led by Jim Cox and Dore Nash on Thursday morn- ing (followed by the usual lunch at McSorley's). The Baker Street Irregulars' Distinguished Speaker on Thursday evening was Martin Edwards, the award-winning mystery author and commentator on myster- ies, and then The Baker Street Babes' "Daintiest Scream on the Moor Charity Ball" featured the unveiling of a "Cake Boss" cake in the shape of a bust of Sherlock Holmes (to be featured on an upcoming episode of the TV series. Friday's William Gillette Luncheon included a performance by the Friends of Bogie's at Baker Street, plus Al Gregory's presentation of the annual Jan WHIMSEY Award (named in memory of his wife Jan Stauber), which honors the most whimsical piece in The Serpentine Muse last year, to M.E. Rich. And Otto Penzler's traditional open house at the Mysterious Bookshop provided the usual opportunities to browse and buy. The Irregulars and their guests gathered for the BSI annual dinner at the Yale Club, where Roy Pilot proposed the traditional preprandial first toast to Patricia Izban as The Woman.
