Easter is upon us. Are we prepared? Have we done a full and complete examination of our conscience? Have we committed to changing our attitudes? Are we ready to 'die to our sins and rise to new life in Christ’? That is what Easter offers us, the opportunity of new life, full life, salvation now and eternal life in Heaven. God loves all of us even if we are unworthy. He gave His only Son to die on the cross for us. Our sins are nailed to His cross. We can leave our guilt there and be free of our past and go forward with hope. The resurrection is all about hope, it is the promise of life beyond the grave. As Jesus rose from the tomb, we will rise too. Praise Him, thank Him and live in faith and in hope and in love. A happy and Holy Blessed Easter to all. Joyfully loving you Bishop John Vaughan. Meaning of Holy Week: • Palm Sunday celebrates the Triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As described in the accounts, Jesus's entry into Jerusalem was noted by the crowds present who shouted praises and waved palm branches • Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday memorializes the Last Supper , where Christ lays out the model for the Eucharist. During the meal, Jesus predicted the events that would immediately follow, including his betrayal, the Denial of Peter , and his death and resurrection. It’s common to do a foot washing and stripping of the altar on Holy Thursday. • Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and his subsequent death. It is a time for fasting, prayer and meditation. • Holy Saturday is the day between the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection. sundown on Holy Saturday is the traditional time for Easter Vigil . • Easter Sunday , on this day the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated. It is the first day of the new season of the Great Fifty Days, or Eastertide , which runs from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. The Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday is the main reason why Christians keep Sunday as the primary day of religious observance.
