Ambleside Parish Centre in partnership with Windermere School is able to offer hot lunches Mon to Fri to its local Community. They cost £3 for two courses, or free if you have lost your income, and can be picked up each day from the centre Mon to Fri, or delivered by a volunteer to your door. Contact [email protected]. Book by noon on Thursday for the next week. Scheme currently available for residents of Ambleside, , the Langdales and Hawkshead. Negotiations underway with Coniston to see if there is a need here too. Thanks to Garside’s Butchers for donations of Cumberland Sausage, and to the YHA of Coniston, Windermere and Lakeside for donations of frozen catering sized meals which will help us extend the scheme for as long as possible.

Ryan at Kysty’s has kindly offered the use of their kitchens to prepare a free vegetarian soup and roll available to those without income on a Saturday and Sunday lunchtime. Soup will be put in reusable insulated cup containers, (again donated by local businesses, including Electricity North West), and can be picked up from Kysty’s, or home delivered by a volunteer. If your problem is not helped by the level of treatment described above, your dentist/ triage provider can then refer you on to nearest emergency walk in centre.  Ambleside Opticians/ Community Eye Care ( Minor Eye Conditions Service) Ambleside Opticians are the dedicated providers of this NHS – run service should you have any eye problem,( e.g. red or painful eye, loss of vision, floaters). For all eye concerns, call directly, or you can be referred by your GP, Pharmacists or even A & E. All initial enquiries will be strictly via the telephone. This may result in a further video call, or appointment at the practice. To be eligible for this service, you must be registered with a local GP, and provide your NHS number at the time of enquiry. From the 4th May, SLDC will resume the green bin waste collection, one bin per household per month. Please put your bin out on the day listed on your calendar. To keep the Refuse Collection Teams safe, the service will be operated by only 2 drivers, so will take longer. If your bin is not collected this time, it will be done on your next scheduled day. The scheme which supports those over 65 years and vulnerable persons with practical help around their homes is restarting, but for outside jobs only, like clearing gutters on bungalows, and fitting external grab rails or key safes. From May 12th The Household Waste Recycling Centres will reopen to domestic users. Restrictions will be in place, and the service will only be for items which cannot be stored safely at home.
