Supports Heavy Vehicular Traffic

TURF PROTECTION ESSENTIALS

The primary purpose of the Matrax field covering system is to protect the synthetic field turf, support heavy vehicular traffic during the construction of the stages and lighting systems, and provide a safe surface for the general public during the event. 100% Drivable Other systems that MetLife had used in the past did not meet MetLife’s performance expectations as these products were poorly designed and could not support fully loaded 40’ tractor-trailers weighing 45,000 lbs. In the past the trailers had to be unloaded in the parking lot and the components of the stage shuttled in on smaller lighter duty vehicles. This process was costly and time consuming. In addition, one of the systems used caused Aerial View damage to the synthetic turf it was intended to protect.

Where other field covering systems are designed from flooring perspective, Matrax was engineered with temporary road building and heavy vehicular traffic in mind. It was also designed to be easily installed, stored and transported. In addition, the Matrax system has translucent properties that permit light to penetrate to the surface below. This allows natural grass to stay alive for up to 7 days while covered thereby eliminating the need for sod replacement. While it transmits light, it does not transfer heat from the surface to the underside. Taylor Swift: The 1989 Tour Matrax has become the system of choice by many industry professionals and has been successfully installed in other notable venues including; , Fenway Park, M&T Bank Stadium, and on the National Mall in Washington DC. It has also been used internationally in Italy, , and the UK.

One Direction: INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES

The MetLife Stadium field surface area is over 105,000 square feet. Matrax used a 4-man crew to install the field covering system at a rate of 100,000 square feet in 8 hours. One crew member drove a forklift, with two others laying down the mats and one crew member locking the mats in place. Matrax was able to install over 105,000 sq. feet of Matrax 4x4 Composite mats in 1 day. After 24 hours of hard work the Matrax crew conducted vehicular load testing and turned the project over to the MetLife Stadium crew to begin construction of the concert platform.
