JUMP: Exploring the cultural phenomenon of Language in Japanese band names Lee, Jackson Koon Yat & A.R.Woollock Abstract In Japan, English-language usage in the public sphere, from advertising through popular music, general media, and signage runs a gamut of uses and accuracies from the intentional and unintentional misuse, to the irreverent and the occasional sublime. This paper sets out to explore and record the use of English in the naming of Japanese pop and rock groups. The central thesis of this essay being that Japanese pop and rock group names fall into five distinct categories or phenomena: meaningless names using language other than Japanese, arbitrary names from second languages, bastardised 'other' language derivatives, Romanised Japanese, and mixed Japanese and other language. This grouping ignores those names rendered in kan-ji, which although acknowledged, are not specifically within the scope of this research. By deconstructing and analysing this use, it is hoped to contribute to discourse in the fields of both culture (cultural appropriation), and language (language use and accuracy). Historical Development of Analog Disk Recording Technology and Artifacts Now in Existence — Shift from Mechanical to Electrical Recording Methods for Longer 1 Duration Recordings and Stereo Sound — Takeaki Anazawa ■ Abstract Chapter 2 of this study, titled “The Birth and Rise of the Phonograph,” touches on related developments . The history of analog recordings dates back to 1877 when American inventor Thomas Edison came up with a new phonograph that enabled users to record sound onto a recording cylinder and replay that audio. In 1887, just 10 years later, German inventor Emile Berliner created the gramophone. The era from that time up until the end of World War I was one where the cylinder-based recording medium competed with the disk-based medium. Later, the disk medium, which was more conducive to mass replication, went on to dominate in the realm of analog recordings. Chapter 3 of this study, titled The Birth of Acoustic (Mechanical) Disk Recording and Playback, describes developments in Japan with respect to audio recordings . Toward the end of the nineteenth century, Japan began importing wax cylinder audio devices. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Western record companies began making recordings in Japan, and then reproduced those recordings back home for export to Japan. In 1909, a Japanese company began manufacturing disk-shaped records (single sided 78-rpm records, 10-inches in diameter), which were released under the “Nipponophone” label. One year later, in 1910, Japan’s first domestically produced gramophone player was released. Chapter 4 of this study, titled The Advent of Electrical Recording, describes circumstances ensuing after the end of the World War I. -

He set out on his journey with nineteen initial questions and answers. Wanting to get the best exposure for his creation he decided it would be best to post it on the [adult swim] message board. There it continued to grow to what it is today. Several other members have asked questions that have made it into the official FAQ and others still have helped in answering them. This is the fruit of their labor and it will hopefully continue to grow. The purpose of this FAQ is not to give away all the plot points of the series or answer simple questions that are answered in the series (there are a few exceptions though). The purpose of this FAQ is to answer various other questions that have been floating around and asked quite often, such as "What is 'Samurai X' and is it different?" It also serves as information about the true history of Japan when compared to the history of RUROUNI KENSHIN. How do I submit a question? During the period from January to December 2013, the total production of music titles including music videos decreased by 13% year on year. In addition, during the period from January to September 2013 (latest available information), sales of paid music downloads decreased by 24% compared year on year (Recording Industry Association of Japan survey). 1. Sales Revenue As of the end of the third quarter under review, the Company’s cumulative consolidated sales revenue totaled 10,303 million yen (a decrease of 6.3% year on year).
