Schurian, Am Mannstein 13, D-65779 Kelkheim-Fischbach Zusammenfassung: Es werden die Eier, Larven und Puppen von Polyomma tus (Aricia) cramera (Eschscholtz ) beschrieben. Am Standort auf Teneriffa wurden die Eier einzeln an die Blätter des Sandröschens ( Tuberaria guttata L., Cistaceae), in Gefangenschaft auch an solche von Blutrotem Storch schnabel ( Geranium sanguineum L., Geraniaceae) gelegt. Die Larven schlüp fen bei zirka 22° C nach etwa 8 Tagen. Die Raupen wurden ausschließlich mit Blutrotem Storchschnabel gefüttert und waren nach 5 Wochen erwachsen. Es wurden mehrere Farbvarianten beobachtet: einfarbig grün und weinrot, dazwischen gab es zahlreiche Übergangsformen. Die Larven verpuppten sich an der Erde, in der Zucht auch an den Wänden der Gefäße. Das Puppenstadium dauerte knapp zwei Wochen. Es wurde mit Erfolg eine Nachzucht durchgeführt. In order to understand patterns of abundances of migratory Lepidoptera in southernmost Europe and contrast this with those of sedentary species, we studied butterflies surveyed along transects during three spring migration seasons at the Rock of Gibraltar. Overall, 2508 butterflies belonging to 19 species were recorded. Of these, the four most numerous species accounted for almost 88% of all individuals recorded. These were the migratory Clouded Yellow Colias croceus, Red Admiral Vanessa atalanta and Painted Lady Vanessa cardui, and the sedentary Common Blue Polyommatus icarus. It is based on a concatenated alignment of the mitochondrial gene COI and up to 11 nuclear gene fragments, using Bayesian inference of phylogeny. To avoid analytical biases that could result from our region-focus sampling, our European tree was grafted upon a global genus- level backbone butterfly phylogeny for analyses. In addition to a consensus tree, we provide the posterior distribution of trees and the fully-concatenated alignment for future analyses. -

Summary An ecological assessment of the butterfly assemblages of the last three relatively large wetlands existing in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula was carried out. Data were collected in 1988-1995 using the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme methodology. Four monitoring transect routes were considered, one in the Empordà Marshes Natural Park, two in Llobregat Delta Nature Reserves and one in the Ebro Delta Natural Park. Nearly 45,000 butterflies belonging to 59 species were recorded, of which only 35 breed regularly in the study areas. Despite the different number of regular breeders in the four transect routes, there was a very close coincidence in the number of species which form open populations. Some of these species (e.g., Cynthia cardui, Vanessa atalanta, Pieris rapae, Pontia daplidice, Colias crocea) are common migrants in the region, and northward migration was observed in the spring months, especially in May and June. The difference in the species' richness of the four areas was related to the drfferent number of species with closed populations, which in the case of the Ebro Delta was exceedingly low. -

New Data on Aricia Agestis (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae), Its Life History and Occurrence in the Podkarpacie Region of Poland

Helianthemum nummularium L. (Cistaceae) and Erodium cicutarium L., Geranium pratense L., Geranium sanquineum L., and Geranium pusilum L. (Geraniaceae) were mentioned as larval host plants from Poland so far, but no data about preimaginal stages of the species were known from south-eastern part of the country. From 2009 up to 2014 many new records of imagines of A. agestis were revealed in mountain and sub-mountain zones of Podkarpacie region, where A. agestis was known from few isolated localities. Additionally, during the observations carried out in 2012 in central and south Podkarpacie region, eggs and early instar caterpillars (L1 & L2) of the second generation were found for the first time in nature on Geranium phaeum L. (Lipnik), and their occurrence on G. pratense L. was detected at the locality of Markowa. Interactions of caterpillars with ants were not recorded. In conclusion, A. agestis is in expansion in mountain and sub-mountain zones of Podkarpacie region (south-eastern Poland) and Geranium phaeum L. is established as the new larval host plants of A. agestis from Poland. My own year has followed the same sort of pattern: an exciting trip to Indonesia in January which seems a lifetime away now; then most of the year spent in the UK broken only by a short trip to France in August (which cost me two weeks quarantine). On the positive side however I have greatly enjoyed running a moth trap again after a break of six or seven years; and I succeeded in photographing all 45 species of butterfly which regularly occur in my home county of Hampshire (although I had to cross the border to West Sussex for Clouded Yellow and Wall Brown).
