TO THE PROGRESSIVE PHYSICIANS OF THE AGE There are two principal methods of treating disease. One is the combative, the other the preventive. The trend of modern medical research and practice in our great colleges and endowed research institutes is almost entirely along combative lines, while the individual, progressive physician learns to work more and more along preventive lines. The slogan of modern medical science is, "Kill the germ and cure the disease." The usual procedure is to wait until acute or chronic diseases have fully developed, and then, if possible, to subdue them by means of drugs, surgical operations, and by means of the morbid products of disease, in the form of serums, antitoxins, vaccines, etc. The combative method fights disease with disease, poison with poison, and germs with germs and germ products. In the language of the Good Book, it is "Beelzebub against the Devil." The preventive method does not wait until diseases have fully developed and gained the ascendancy in the body, but concentrates its best endeavors on preventing, by hygienic living and by natural methods of treatment, the development of diseases. By these it endeavors to put the human body in such a normal, healthy condition that it is practically proof against infection or contagion by disease taints and miasms, and against the inroads of germs, bacteria and parasites. The question is, which method is the most practical, the most successful and most popular? Which will stand the test of "the survival of the fittest" in the great struggle for existence? The medical profession has good reason to be alarmed by the inroads made in its work by irregular, unorthodox systems, schools and cults of treating human ailments; but instead of raging at the audacious presumption of these interlopers, would it not be better to inquire if there is not some reason for the astonishing spread and This Free E-Book is Presented As Is Without Guarantee or Warranty. Their success undoubtedly is based on the fact that they concentrate their best efforts on preventive instead of combative methods of treating disease. People are beginning to realize that it is cheaper and more advantageous to prevent disease than to cure it. To create and maintain continuous, buoyant good health means greater efficiency for mental and physical work; greater capacity for the true enjoyment of life, and the best insurance against failure and poverty. Therefore, he who builds health is of greater value to humanity than he who allows people to drift into disease through ignorance of Nature's laws, and then attempts to cure them by doubtful and uncertain combative methods.

Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences 2013; Vol2, Issue 37, September 16; Page: 7077-7083. ABSTRACT: Coined by Dr. John Scheel, Henry Lindlahr crediting him as “father of Naturopathy”, Naturopathy system of Medicine is a system of healing science stimulating the body’s inherent power to regain health with the help of five great elements of nature. Naturopathy provides not only a simple practical approach to the management of disease, but a firm theoretical basic which is applicable to all holistic medical care and by giving attention to the foundations of health; also offers a more economical frame work for the medicine of future generation. Naturopathy is an approach to healing using “natural” means such as diet and lifestyle. For treatment, it primarily stresses on correcting all the factors involved and allowing the body to recover itself. In dentistry, various modalities are available therefore, supporting dental treatment. For the same purpose, this paper is intended to have an overview of other dental treatment modalities available via i.e. Naturotherapy. KEYWORDS: Nature therapy, hydrotherapy, therapeutics. www.ijcrt.org © 2014 IJCRT | Volume 2, Issue 1 February 2014 | ISSN: 2320-2882 Benefits of Yoga and Naturopathy in Human Life Dr. RAZIA. K. I. Director (I/C) Department of Physical Education University of Kerala, Trivandrum- 695033 Abstract In Yoga and Naturopathy, meditation and different natural therapies are an integral aspect. With changing life style and global scenario, there have been changes in almost all the stream of traditional science to suit contemporary requirements. Various health clubs and training centers were opened up to help people get training and therapies comfortably. Now people do not have to really go into ashrams and forests to meditate. Traditional system like Naturopathy has also evolved from its traditional model. Nowadays, all kinds of electronic equipments are provided in these health clubs and training centers for physical exercises are prescribed by yoga. Naturopathic treatment also uses modern scientific machines to provide natural therapies. Individuals generally own these health clubs and training centers. They are registered under the Society's Act in jurisdiction of different states; no central regulations are there for these private institutes. These institutes are many in number and as such, no federal record is maintained. This is one of the most upcoming sectors. Many private training institutes also give training in yoga as free services, but most of them charge for their services. Their services are more popular in metropolitans and cities where people face problems like depression, stress, asthma, etc. due to pollution and conditions prevailing in cities. Multiple studies have confirmed the many mental and physical benefits of yoga.

  • NATUROPATHY and HOLISTIC MEDICINE
Chapter 11 NATUROPATHY and HOLISTIC MEDICINE Naturopathy is not easy to define. The word is not even to be found in my 1973 two- volume Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. It does appear in the 1976 edition of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary where it is defined as “treatment of disease by seeking to assist natural therapy”. That is to say, it utilises “Nature’s cure”. The origins of naturopathy Many of the principles espoused by naturopaths were laid down by Hippocrates, the “Father of Medicine” in Greece two and a half thousand years ago. Hippocrates said that good health depends upon the correct balance of rest and exercise, proper nourishment and emotional stability. These same precepts were promulgated by Vincenz Priessnitz (1799-1851), a farmer in Silesia, Germany. He advocated ice-cold baths, fresh air, barefoot walks in grass and streams, and the eating of wholesome food consisting of black bread, vegetables and fresh milk. These ideas were then expounded by others including Johannes Schroth who combined diet with hydrotherapy. This latter notion of hydrotherapy was popularised by Father Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897) of Bad Worihösen in Bavaria, Germany who supposedly cured himself of an otherwise fatal lung condition by using herbs and plunging into ice-cold water every day for months. Spas utilising the methods he advanced were established throughout Europe. This approach was then brought to America by Benedict Lust (1872-1945), a German doctor who migrated to the United States in 1892. He founded the American School of Naturopathy in 1900 in New York City, the first class graduating in 1902.

The most violent letters came from Reichians, furious because the book considered orgonomy alongside such (to them) outlandish cults as dianetics. Dianeticians, of course, felt the same about orgonomy. I heard from homeopaths who were insulted to find themselves in company with such frauds as osteopathy and chiropractic, and one chiropractor in Kentucky "pitied" me because I had turned my spine on God's greatest gift to suffering humanity. Several admirers of Dr. Bates favored me with letters so badly typed that I suspect the writers were in urgent need of strong spectacles. Oddly enough, most of these correspondents objected to one chapter only, thinking all the others excellent.
