This brings to fruition his long struggle in politics as his party would be running affairs of the government for the next five years at the Centre, in Punjab and KP. In the speech delivered after his victory in the election of the Prime Minister in the National Assembly session, Imran Khan was once again in his original upbeat and aggressive mood but for understandable reasons. PTI based its entire political and electoral struggle on the slogan of ‘change’ and that is why after his election. Though he did not elaborate what changes he intends to introduce and how these would impact the July 2018 common man but his firm tone sent a clear message that he has a plan and would implement it too in letter and spirit. The entire nation has now eyes on the decisions of PTI’s Government. Relief to the masses can be done by putting the house in order, introducing bold institutional reforms to check massive corruption, lethargy and resorting to strict austerity measures in all spheres of life beginning from the top. Speeding up work on special economic zones to be set up under the CPEC and enhancing the ratio of direct taxes as well as bolstering exports is the way forward to free the country from the debt trap and make the country sovereign economically which will also lead to bringing improvement in the social sector and living standards of the people. The list is not over here. There is accountability, widening of tax net, reforms in FBR, civil service and police, plight of down-trodden segments of the society, speedy and inexpensive justice, creation of South Punjab province, FATA mainstreaming, resolution of Karachi problems and overhauling June 2018 health and education sectors are also important issues and challenges. On the foreign policy front, the new government will have to engage meaningfully with all countries to safeguard national prestige, integrity and fundamental interests. The Government has started working but not in full gear and therefore, there is logic that critics should wait for at least three months that the Prime Minister has sought to judge the quality of governance and policies and programmes of the new regime. However, it is also to be kept in mind that opposition has its own agenda and grievances and what PTI did in the past, PML(N) is doing today but Our previous Issues Our previous one must not lose sight of the fact that the Government has to lose more than the Opposition in chaotic and instable conditions. The Government is always supposed to be tolerant and accommodative and it should be more so in the case of PTI, which has thin majority and would be needing May 2018 May cooperation of the Opposition frequently to implement its agenda. We wish the new government a good start and successful tenure with the hope that it fulfils national aspirations.
