Thermophilous species are represented by interesting records, namely Suillia gigantea (Meigen, 1830), S. lu - rida (Meigen, 1830) , S. variegata (Loew, 1862) (all Heleomyzidae), Minettia subvittata (Loew, 1847), Peplomyza discoidea (Meigen, 1830) (both Lauxaniidae), and Otites lamed (Schrank, 1781) (Ulidiidae). Keywords Species list, Finland, Diptera, biodiversity, faunistics Introduction The superfamily Sphaeroceroidea is a medium-sized one, with two families of moder- ate diversity, Sphaeroceridae (1550 species) and Heleomyzidae (~720 species), and the small family Chyromyidae. The enigmatic afrotropical Mormotomyia hirsuta Aus- ten, 1936 was once placed near Sphaeroceridae but it is now seen as an ephydroid fly (Kirk-Spriggs et al. 2011). McAlpine (2007) has proposed an alternative concept for Sphaeroceroidea with Sphaeroceridae and Heleomyzidae united as a single family called Heteromyzidae. This proposal has not gained significant support and for the purposes of this checklist the traditional concept of family Sphaeroceridae is retained. Copyright Jere Kahanpää. The species was observed in nature, in Rota, Spain, on 6th December 2019, and after detailed identification process, it was recorded for the first time in Europe. The pictures concerning the Pseudoleria pectinata specimen and the diagnostic features are presented. A discussion concerning the utilization of citizen science to help monitor invasive or introduced animals is included. Grassland productivity in the Czech Republic is significantly affected by variability in the weather, which in recent years has exhibited more frequent drought episodes (e.g. in 2000 or 2003) leading to lower yield-stability. The negative effects of drought could be partly prevented by a system combining a body of knowledge obtained from past long-term grassland experiments with spatially explicit information about the soil water availability in the given season, and to issue a probabilistic forecast of seasonal water stress and yield levels. Such a system was shown to well represent the between-year yield variability (R2 between 0.6 – 0.9) at individual sites and provide useful forecasting ability surpassing standard statistical forecast methods. Diptera, Heleomyzidae, Europe, Poland, winter activity, snow fauna, phenology, review Abstract. Twenty eight species of winter-active Heleomyzidae were collected during a long-term study in Poland. More than 130 samples of insects, including Heleomyzidae, were collected from the surface of snow in lowland and mountain areas using a semi-quantitative method. Lowland and mountain assemblages of Heleomyzidae recorded on snow were quite different. Heleo- myza modesta (Meigen, 1835) and Scoliocentra (Leriola) brachypterna (Loew, 1873) dominated in the mountains, Tephrochlamys rufi ventris (Meigen, 1830) mainly in the lowlands and Heteromyza rotundicornis (Zetterstedt, 1846) was common in both habitats. Heleomyzidae were found on snow during the whole period of snow cover, but the catches peaked from late November to the beginning of February. In late winter and early spring the occurrence of heleomyzids on snow decreased. Most individuals were active on snow at air temperatures between –2 and +2.5°C. A checklist of 78 winter active European Heleomyzidae is presented.
