WISTANSWICK FETE 2018

Once again, the Wistanswick Fete & Horse & Pony Show proved to be an amazing event. We were overwhelmed by the support and attendance this year and as always, raised a lot of money towards new windows for the Institute and many more community benefits.

We would like to thank so many people and couldn’t do it on an

individual basis but a massive ‘shout out’ to all our volunteers, who worked tirelessly to bring the whole thing together once more. This continues throughout the year in readiness for the following fete and involves so many people giving up their own time to ensure it all goes smoothly. A great big, heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you, you are brilliant!

Finally, with the addition of the Pimms stall and the Sweet stand, we were able to offer something a little different this year and will continue to add to this in the future. If you have any suggestions, please get in

touch. Without any doubt, the success of this event is always shown by the wonderful people who attend. This year, we had an even bigger crowd and could barely keep up on the BBQ, which was fantastic! The Wistanswick Fete committee would like to thank everyone who attended and joined in on the many activities we had through the fields. Without you all, this would not happen and is the reason we continue on with this fabulous event.

Once again, thank you to you all – Jackie Jefferies & the Fete Committee.

North Walking Football takes off!

Thanks to the determination of founder members and encouraged by an influx of new players, we regularly reach the required numbers for a good game plus the occasional reserve!

As a result we have even been challenged to the odd match against other clubs, and although we lost both, the second one was closely fought.

Thanks go to Football Club for letting us play this last game on their pitch whilst wearing the strip they have kindly lent us. Now we look the part and are ready to take on all comers!

If you’d like to join us you’d be welcome at the Maurice Chandler Centre from 4pm on Thursdays - £3.20 per session.

Public Footpaths in our Parish

After the hot summer we are aware that some stiles and footpaths have become overgrown – our local volunteer group (Stoke upon Tern Parish Paths Partnership) will hopefully be embarking on a programme to clear and repair stiles & gates over the Autumn.

We would like to point out that it is the landowner’s legal responsibility to keep paths on their land free of crops, overgrown hedges and other vegetation and members of the public are encouraged by Shropshire Council to report any paths that are blocked.

Go to https://shropshire.gov.uk/outdoor-partnerships/report-a-rights- of -way-issue/, or search for ‘rights of way issue’ on the shropshire.gov.uk website.

A map of the Parish with path numbers is available to view on the website stokeupontern.info – it is helpful to give the route code.

We would like to thank the estate managers at Helshaw Grange who have renovated the stiles opposite the Grange that had been damaged by the horses.
