The West Wing Weekly 1.20: Mandatory Minimums Guests: Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Kathleen “Bird” York [Intro Music] JOSH: You're listening to “The West Wing Weekly.” I'm Joshua Malina. HRISHI: And I'm Hrishikesh Hirway. Today we're talking about Episode 20 from Season 1. It's called "Mandatory Minimums." JOSH: It was written by fan favorite Aaron Sorkin, and it was directed by Bob Berlinger - incredibly nice, funny, great guy and an excellent director. I worked with him on, I think, something like twelve episodes of Sports Night . He directed me in my brief appearance in a TV movie starring Charisma Carpenter called See Jane Date , and - he's great. HRISHI: And now he's directing See Jane Cregg . JOSH: Ah. There you go! HRISHI: Coming up later in the episode, we're going to be joined by Mayor Karen Freeman- Wilson of Gary, Indiana to talk to us about the issue of mandatory minimums, and we're going to be joined by Kathleen York, who makes her first appearance in the series guest-starring as Andrea Wyatt. JOSH: Ok, music guy: Gary, Indiana. Made famous in what musical? HRISHI: Our Town ? JOSH: Good guess, but it's not a musical. HRISHI: [laughs] Our Town isn't a musical? JOSH: So, I guess that would be among the worst possible guesses. HRISHI: [laughs] It's on a stage! JOSH: There's a song in The Music Man - oh, now I've given it away - The Music Man . HRISHI: Is it The Music Man ? JOSH: Since your original guess was a straight play, I figured I'd just zoom right ahead to the correct answer: The Music Man.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Reminder List of Eligible Releases for Distinguished Achievements during 2006 http://www.oscars.org/79academyawards/reminder/ Reminder List of Productions Eligible for Awards All films that have qualified for consideration for 2006 Academy Awards in the non-specialized categories are listed alphabetically by title. Voters making selections in their own branch categories list only film titles on their ballots, not the individuals responsible for the various achievements. For that reason, as well as for reasons of printing time and convenience of using this pamphlet, full credit rosters are not provided for the listed films. An exception to the above exists in the four Acting categories, where simply listing titles would not provide enough voting information. Actors Branch members filling out their Nominations ballots must indicate both titles and the particular performers they are voting for. For that reason, the Reminder List provides a listing of up to fifty cast members for each film. Pictures eligible in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature and Foreign Language Film categories are also eligible in the Best Picture category, provided they meet the qualifications for the category. Foreign Language films are eligible for awards in other categories provided they meet the requirements of Awards Rules Two and Three. Michael Conrad played the unforgettable desk sergeant Phil Esterhaus. As the adorable sergeant, he brought a sensitive, calming influence amongst all the haste, chaos and drama and was known for his subtle turn of phrase. During the fourth series in 1983, Conrad became seriously ill but he didn';t let urethral cancer stop him going to work. He wanted to be surrounded by his "on set family" and he passed away during the shooting of the police drama. Charles Haid (Andy "Cowboy" Renko) said "he died in the saddle" Esterhaus was written out of the show in a moving episode called Grace Under Pressure in which he dies making love to Grace Gardner. When the sergeant';s cause of death is announced, Andy Renko can be heard saying - "Damn that was a good way to check out" His successor Robert Prosky (Stan Jablonski) hard had shoes to fill so thankfully was written as an entirely different character and changed the famous roll call end phrase from "Let's be careful out there!" to "Let's do it to them before they do it to us." Born October 16th 1925, New York City Passed away: November 22, 1983, Los Angeles, California aged 58 Won two Best Supporting Actor Emmy Awards, 1981 and 1982. 1998 PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE, NAKED CHILDREN, AND DEAD CELEBRITIES: DIGITAL FORGERY AND THE LAW Jol A. Silversmith* Pictures never lie, right? Not anymore.1 Introduction The ease with which photographic images may be manipulated is not a new challenge for the law. Photography is inherently incapable of reproducing reality exactly: From the start, it has sliced three dimensions of space as well as time into two-dimensional stills.2 Further, virtually since the invention of the medium, photographers actively have sought to create images that distort reality, instead of accurately reflecting its contours.3 At least as long ago as the McCarthy hearings, photographs presented in legal proceedings later were proven not to be reliable depictions of people and events, but instead to have been “doctored.”4 Even still, *A.B., Harvard College, 1994; M.Sc., London School of Economics, 1995; J.D. candidate, Harvard Law School, 1998.
