ALPINE FARM STAY

"SUUFSUNNTIG"

CHEESE GROTTO Alpine architecture – based on tradition A village's architectural image has a decisive infl uence over how it is perceived. With Gstaad this is: authenticity, harmony, warmth and hospitality. This is based on Gstaad's chalets, which are either original or freshly-interpreted but always true to tradition. They refl ect the typical character of the holiday region of Gstaad.

Saanen

As many cows as people Gstaad has a population of 7,200. And almost as many cows. Nothing would work here without Simmental cattle. They provide excellent milk for the famous Alpine cheese and Hobelkäse. Their savory air-dried beef is also a delicacy.

In spite of its wealth of tourist facilities, the holiday region of Gstaad has retained its Alpine authenticity. FONDUELAND GSTAAD

With its gentle topography and varied speciality cheeses, the region of Gstaad offers the perfect mix for sophisticated bons vivants. In Fondueland Gstaad, there is nothing more natural than enjoying a delicious fondue surrounded by the mountain landscape. In a place where fresh air, lush pastures and herbs provide the best possible basis for outstanding cheese.

Two specially designated huts and two inordinately large fondue pots, each with enough room for up to eight people, provide the perfect backdrop for dining, socialising and marvelling at the unparalleled panoramic views. Whether you travel on foot, by bike, by sledge or on snowshoes, or even if you would like to choose your very own outdoor relaxation spot – anything is possible in Fondueland Gstaad.

The fondue backpack This is made possible thanks to the fondue backpack in a nostalgic design. It contains all of the ingredients needed for the irresistible outdoor experience: a full set of preparation equipment, either a traditional thick fondue or a particularly fl avoursome truffl e fondue made by the Schönried Dairy, as well as crusty fondue bread supplied by the Wehren Bakery, spices, fondue pot, warmer, plates and forks.

Culinary delicacies in idyllic Alpine aurroundings Gstaad is simply made for gourmets! Here guests can make the most of a unique blend of nature, well-being and leisure activities of the highest order in the realms of sport and culture. But it is equally excellent for people who prefer their taste buds to be whetted. Introducing a few local specialities:

Hobelkäse, mountain cheese and Alpine cheese On the farms in the holiday region of Gstaad almost everything revolves around milk. The top products are Alpine cheese, Hobelkäse and mountain cheese. Alpine cheese is a full-fat hard cheese made from raw milk with a hard choice rind and is produced on the Alp. It is known as Hobelkäse when sliced, this is the way it has traditionally been served. Mountain cheese may only be marketed as such if it was produced at a dairy down in the valley. Available at the local cheese dairies. Hobelkäse

Air-dried "Simmental" beef Farmers in the holiday region of Gstaad predomi- nantly breed spotted Simmental cattle. Air-dried meat is a veritable regional speciality. Tip: try savoury Simmental air-dried meat on its own or with a little Saanen mustard. Available at the local butchers. Simmentaler Fleckvieh

Saanen mustard Is one of the many regional specialities in the holiday region of Gstaad. It is served in a small dish, usually with ham and sausages. It can be kept in a cool place for up to three months. Mustard is traditionally made from mustard seeds and grape must. However, this is not the case in the Saanenland, where the main ingredient is cherry puree. Every family has its own closely guarded secret recipe. Saanen mustard Available at Pernet Comestibles.
