It is undeniable that this has been a tough few months for all of us and that the country is facing difficult decisions that we would all have hoped were avoidable. I do however believe that by taking those hard steps now, we can prepare and strengthen Britain for a future which is sustainable in the long-term. At this time of Christmas presents, I’ve been having a think about what would be on my wish list for the local area and after lengthy consideration I’ve got it down to three. I’d like to see the issue of the A614 finally tackled. I’ve successfully campaigned for extra lanes on the Ollerton roundabout, easing traffic queues, which is a good start. I have also asked the Minister for Transport to consider additional funding to the County to allow for improvements to the horrific junctions on the A614 and he will be carrying out a site inspection with particular emphasis on Rose Cottage, Gravelly Hollow and Mickeldale Lane. Second on my wish list is to stop the flooding ruining homes and businesses in Rainworth. I am meeting with Severn Trent over the coming weeks to find a solution and will keep you posted. My final wish this year is for support for the invaluable and often unsung heroes of our local community: the voluntary and charity organisations that do so much. There is a Big Society Bank due for next year but I know a lot of groups I spoke with were worried about the more immediate future. I asked David Cameron at Prime Minister’s Questions how quickly we can get funding to these organisations and he has assured me that a transition fund of £100 million is now available and I strongly urge local bodies to take full advantage and apply. So once again, I wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas this year and I would also like to take the opportunity to wish our armed forces across the world a safe and Merry Christmas. Hamilton suspended standing orders 7.34pm 16.3: Public open session A member of the public Jenny Frost questioned Cllr. Taylor on refuse collection in the village. He explained that NSDC Refuse collection would only empty the contents of a wheelie bin and not any bags alongside it. These should be disposed of at a council tip. Cllr. Healy questioned Cllr. Taylor on fly tipping in the village which he acknowledged was a problem everywhere in the district and that Farnsfield was better than some places Cllr. Jackson reported that the play signs on Main street near to the entrance of Parfitt Drive had been approved for this financial year. He also commented that he was still following up on the possibility of a safety barrier at the end of the jitty next to the Old Gaol. He also reported that the 16k grant for allotments had been refused but Farnsfield was 6th in line on the reserve list.

    Foreword Dear Chess Friends As I started this report I had just heard the sad news that IM Bob Wade had died aged 87. I first met Bob at one of the Whitby Congresses and in 1972 he played in the Teesside GM Tournament where I recall he beat the three Hungarian players Portisch, Bilek and Sax. Earlier in the year we also had the loss of a great servant of the Federation John Dunleavy. I seemed to have known John for such a long time. He was renowned for his wisdom and courtesy and I regarded him as a true friend. 2008 saw more changes in the ECF Board with four resignations after the April Council. A new Board was soon elected and ECF continued to operate. I want to thank the four people who came on to ECF Board in 2006 because they did at least try to bring about changes in ECF, maybe it was too much too quick. Stewart Reuben found a sponsor for the English teams in the Dresden Olympiad, I have thanked LV= for their generous support and hope that it may continue. The chess for schools project remained in the headlines for quite some time, I hope that as you read this year book all issues have been resolved. As I write we are in the midst of an economic crisis and it is too early to say if there has been any impact on The JR Trust or The PIF. Liverpool as part of City of Culture celebrations staged the EU Championship as well as our own British Championships.

    Patient statement regarding the future of services at Farnsfield Surgery It is with great regret that Sherwood Medical Partnership has come to the difficult conclusion that it is time to withdraw from provision of services to the Farnsfield Surgery population. Since 2015 when Crown Medical Centre and Farnsfield Surgery merged, Sherwood Medical Partnership has worked hard to deliver a service to the Farnsfield patient population. The partnership have been made aware of issues reported by patients and has worked closely with the PPG to make changes and improvements. Despite its best efforts and endeavours, the partnership feels it is no longer able to provide services to the Farnsfield population. Please see the accompanying ‘You said, We Did’ document. In addition, recently, a statement from Farnsfield Parish Council released via a number of community Facebook groups on behalf of Farnsfield Surgery patient population has given Sherwood Medical Partnership no alternative but to consider its future in delivering services for the Farnsfield Surgery population. We have approached the CCG and NHS England and they are working to find an alternative provider for the patient population of Farnsfield Surgery. We hope the opportunities a new provider can offer with fresh eyes and a different perspective will provide the service the Farnsfield Surgery population has been seeking. Our aim is to minimise the impact of any change on the patient population of Farnsfield as much as possible. We are keen to ensure a smooth transition to a new provider when the CCG/NHS England have identified one. The health and wellbeing of our patients both at Farnsfield and Crown has always been paramount.
