Course Description The aim of this class is for students to learn several aspects of areas through case studies mainly of and New Zealand. They are to learn “Bush Ranger”, “Opinions on the main motivation for British people to come into Australia”, “The first contact of Aboriginal people with white people”, “Study on Oceania Literature”, “Sydney Olympic” in the concrete. B. General Approach This course will be taught using a combination of lecture, and in-class discussions to check the meaning and understanding of the material followed by practical exercises to demonstrate the application of the material being covered in class. C. Relationship with Other Courses This course will give more opportunity to students who are interested in the cultural studies, for example, Modern Cultural Anthropology, or Comparative Cultural Studies. Goals/Objective of Course: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to (a) understand the importance of , (b) explain what the ethnic groups in Oceania face to, (c) think how to develop the relationship between Japan and Australia , etc. Study Requirements: Students need to express themselves to actively participate in class. This course gives the material for students to consider. Therefore, students will need to pre-read class material to prepare questions and/or opinions on the subject matter to share in class discussions. Evaluation Methods: A. Policies: 1. In class participation is required to demonstrate how well the content is understood. 2. Late assignments will be accepted with a penalty of 20%. 3. Students are responsible for any work they miss due to an absence. B. Reflection and Feedback: Students will be asked to reflect on the content of each class. C. Course Requirements (Major Assignments, Quizzes & Exams including Dates) In order to be successful in this course, students will need to complete the following: (1)pass the quizzes 20%, (2)complete homework from the distributed papers 10% (3)give the presentation of one selective topic during the semester 20% (4)do the timed-writings 10%, (5)successfully write a report 40% Textbooks: None Other Course Materials: All materials will be provided.
