KINNEY - Henry Higgins - Jim makes his second ap- pearance on our stage, but this marks his third production; since he played Fagin in "Oliver" and directed "Paint Your Wagon". A teacher of English and Drama at Markham Junior High School, he has also performed with Saratoga Drama Group and G. & S. Society of San Jose. He enjoys Community Theater in our area because it is so rich in its variety of talents and personalities. DOUGLAS A. HAGDOHL; II - Henry Higgins - Although he makes his first appearance with WVLO, the name of Douglas Hagdohl is not new to West Valley. His father. with the same name, was instrumental in the founding of WVLO and played the lead in their first two productions. Like father, Douglas II is creating a name for himself in theater with 30 productions already to his credit. He has won many awards for his talents and has appeared at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. He is currently Executive Director of the Oakridge Repertoire Theater Group. BONNIE BREWER - Eliza Doolittle - This "bonnie" lass makes her debut with WVLO, but she is certainly no stranger to the stage. She has had major supporting roles in several productions in high school and with Children's Music Theater. She is a dancer. jogger, nature lover, and choir member of Los Gatos Christian Church. SANDRA CAUCUTT - Eliza Doolittle - Regulars will remember Sandra in the role of Gertrude in our production of "Sweethearts". And this will be the second appearance in the role of Eliza for she also portrayed this delightful character for Children's Music Theater. Since she was born in England and spent her early childhood there, her English accent is natural. She hopes to become an airline stewardess so that she might revisit her native country. Glamor and farce in Hello, Dolly!, from Wilder to Kelly Julie Vatain-Corfdir & Émilie Rault When Hello, Dolly! opened on Broadway in January 1964, immediately to be hailed as “a musical shot through with enchantment,”1 New York audiences were by no means greeting Dolly for the first time. Through a process of recycling which probably owed as much to the potential of the original story as it did to a logic of commercial security, the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi – the meddling matchmaker who sorts out everyone’s love lives and contrives to marry her biggest client herself – had been prosperous on stage and screen for the previous ten years, and would continue to attract audiences to this day.2 Not unlike My Fair Lady, which previously held the record for longest-running Broadway musical, Hello, Dolly! trod on the “surer road to success,”3 with a book based on a popular play by an acclaimed playwright – Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker –, and one which had already been famously adapted to the screen with a cast starring, among others, Shirley Booth and Shirley MacLane.

    Developmental Cross Training Repertoire for Musical Theatre Women The repertoire suggestions below target specific developmental goals. It is important to keep in mind however that the distinguishing characteristic of musical theatre singing is the variability of tonal resonance within any given song. A predominantly soprano song might suddenly launch into a belt moment. A chest dominant ballad may release into a tender soprano. Story always pre-empts musical choices. “Just You Wait” from My Fair Lady is part of the soprano canon but we would be disappointed if Eliza could not tell Henry Higgins what she really felt. In order to make things easier for beginning students, it’s a good idea to find repertoire with targeted range and consistent quality as students develop skill in coordinating registration. Soprano Mix—Beginner, Teens to Young Adult Examples of songs to help young sopranos begin to feel functionally confident and enthusiastic about characters and repertoire. Integrating the middle soprano is a priority and it is wise to start there.
