FACULTY DIRECTED CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAM TO ENGLAND (LONDON) CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN LONDON JULY 10 JULY 17, 2017 CREDIT: 3 UNDERGRADUATE CREDITS TOWARDS CJ 4600 SPECIAL TOPICS 3 GRADUATE CREDITS TOWARDS CJ 9500 SPECIAL TOPICS PROGRAM FEE: $3,475 PROGRAM INFORMATION: This Tour, led by Katy Cathcart and Richard Radabaugh, will feature visits to the Inns of Court and Royal Courts of Justice and the Houses of Parliament, as well as site visits of local landmarks and historical tours. Students will also visit sites such as the Tower of London, track the evolution of the British legal system, explore the Royal Courts of Justice, the Inns of Cart and the Old Bailey in this 7 day overseas program. Through this program students will recognize and understand fundamental concepts associated with the history of Criminal Justice in the U.S. Additionally, they will recognize and understand key practices associated with criminal justice and law enforcement in the UK. Students will also be applying lessons learned from field studies in assessing criminal justice policy and practice approaches and through this develop a better understanding of existing criminal justice policy in a global context. Students should expect to keep a daily journal, participate in reflection/discussion sessions during the program and complete a final research paper that pertains to the experiences of the tour. Students can opt to take this tour not for credit as well. Program Fee ($3,475) includes airfare, accommodation, ground transportation, daily breakfast and select dinners, entrance to all activities included in the program. The program fee does not include tuition. Students may take this trip not for credit. The impact of such change is likely to vary across UK regions. There is also a growing demand for improved regional economic analysis to help inform devolution and City Deal-type policymaking. Despite these concerns, there are no comprehensive national statistics on interregional trade in the UK. This paper fills this gap, proposing a framework for estimating interregional trade between the devolved nations of the UK: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We explain where gaps exist in the current UK data landscape and suggests various ways in which these could be addressed. We then apply our framework using currently available data, presenting initial results for trade between the 4 nations of the UK in 2015. Recommendations for future work are also presented, including the need to evaluate current methods for collecting trade information within the UK. Defra statistics: Agricultural facts – South West (commercial holdings at June 2019 (unless stated) The South West region comprises Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol / Bath area. Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are within the region. For the South West region: Total Income from Farming increased by 46% between 2015 and 2019 to £644 million. The biggest contributors to the value of the output (£4.1 billion), which were milk (£1,105 million), plants and flowers (£545 million), cattle for meat (£357 million) and poultry meat (£304 million), together accounting for 57%. (Sourced from Defra Aggregate agricultural accounts) In the South West the average farm size in 2019 was 68 hectares. This is smaller than the English average of 87 hectares. Predominant farm types in the South West region in 2019 were Grazing Livestock farms which accounted for 36% of farmed area in the region, Cereals farms and Dairy farms which covered an additional 20% and 18% of farmed area each. Briefly indicate the current legislation. In England and Wales, the following formal couple relationships are recognised and their formation is governed by legislation which sets out the formalities and requirements for: - Heterosexual marriage – English Marriage Act 1949 - Same-sex marriage – English Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act 2013 which further amends English Marriage Act 1949 - Registered and exclusively same-sex Civil Partnership – English Civil Partnership Act 2004 - Divorce and nullity of all marriages is governed by the English Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 Part I. - Dissolution and nullity of civil partnerships is governed by Chapter 2 of the English Civil Partnership Act 2004.1 2. The Political Quarterly, Vol. 87, No. 2, April–June 2016 England, Englishness and Brexit ~ AILSA HENDERSON, CHARLIE JEFFERY, ROBERT LINEIRA, ROGER SCULLY, DANIEL WINCOTT AND RICHARD WYN JONES Abstract In the 1975 referendum England provided the strongest support for European integration, with a much smaller margin for membership in Scotland and Northern Ireland. By 2015 the rank order of ‘national’ attitudes to European integration had reversed. Now, England is the UK’s most eurosceptic nation and may vote ‘Leave’, while Scotland seems set to generate a clear margin for ‘Remain’. The UK as a whole is a Brexit marginal. To understand the cam- paign, we need to make sense of the dynamics of public attitudes in each nation. We take an ‘archaeological’ approach to a limited evidence-base, to trace the development of attitudes to Europe in England since 1975. We ﬁnd evidence of a link between English nationalism and euroscepticism. Whatever the result in 2016, contrasting outcomes in England and Scotland will exacerbate tensions in the UK’s territorial constitution and could lead to the break-up of Britain.
