CTBUREAU_KK 2 hours ago Mysuru, February 9:- The electrification of the double track between Mysuru and Bengaluru is expected to be launched and formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city on February 26. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Mysuru on February 26 to officially inaugurate these services which are awaited by the rail commuters from past two months. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) completed the inspection of the electrified railway track and gave his clearance for operation of electric trains in December last year. The railway authorities initially planned to launch the new electrified railway track on December 26, 2017 by inviting Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, but it was later cancelled as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to be present during the inauguration. Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha also took to his twitter handle and confirmed that PM Modi will be part of the inauguration ceremony. It was also said that Narendra Modi who visited Bengaluru on February 4 to address the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Parivartana rally would inaugurate the service; however, it was postponed again. Meanwhile, reliable railway sources told City Today that Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bengaluru- Mysuru electrified rail double track and also flag off three new trains. It is also said that he would also lay the foundation stone for Bengaluru- Mysuru 10-lane National Highway project on 26th of this month. Sources from the BJP also confirmed that Narendra Modi will be in city to inaugurate various welfare works. “Narendra Modi who is invited by the members of Jain community to take part in the valedictory of Mahamastabhisheka on February 26 is very keen to take part in the mega event held at Shravanabelagola and before or after the event he is chalking out to visit the city to launch these facilities to the rail users,” said a source. The BJP is also expecting the arrival of PM Modi in Mysuru and it is said that his visit to the hometown of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would boost BJP’s chances in the region and the state. The rail users said that the facility completed after years of delay must be dedicated for public use without further delay. SWR to introduce MEMU service to Mysuru? According to South Western Railway (SWR) sources, the temporary Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) service will be launched between Bengaluru and Mysuru from tomorrow. As the Bengaluru Kannur/Karwar train departing Bengaluru city at 8:30 pm will be diverted to newly laid railway line via Sharavanabegola instead of present route via Mysuru, from tomorrow for four days of the week, the SWR is keen to introduce temporary MEMU service to Mysuru from Bengaluru. According to the sources, the new MEMU trains would depart SBC at 19:55 and arrive at Mysuru Railway Station at 23:20. It will depart at 5 am from Mysuru and reach Bengaluru at 8:40 am. These trains would take nearly three-and-half hours to travel 139 km stretch between Mysuru and Bengaluru. Though the SWR authorities have not confirmed about the temporary MEMU service, it is said that the SWR authorities are keen to allow this service after it observed that the commuters would be in fix as they don’t have trains after 7 pm to Mysuru till 11.55 pm, due to diversion of Bengaluru-Kannur train. However, the rail users have urged SWR to extend the 12609/10 Chennai-Bengaluru intercity train to Mysuru as it suits exactly the timings. Speaking to City Today, member of Mysore Grahakara Parishat S Yogendra said, “The Bengaluru Kannur/Karwar trains were used by many techies for their weekend journey. The workers employed in and around ITPL, Whitefield, Bengaluru and other areas have been facing trouble as they don’t have a train to reach various destinations on Mysuru line and SWR has not introduced an alternate train for these commuters.” “So extending the 12609/10 Chennai-Bengaluru intercity train to Mysuru would be benefit the commuters as it suits exactly the timings of diverted train between Mysuru Bengaluru on the both the sides and this train will give direct connectivity to ITPL Whitefield in Bengaluru with Mysuru line commuters which will eliminate the process of changing the modes of transport at Bengaluru to reach destinations,” he added. -By Karthik K K Leave a Reply 0 comments 0 Comments Sort by Oldest Add a comment...
