Tom Gille was declared the winner of last year’s Big 8 race at SPS after Minnesota’s Adam Oxborough finished first but was disqualified upon post-race inspection due to an illegal carburetor... Gille also is the most recent winner in the series, taking the Star Spangled 76 on July 3 at Rockford Speedway... Other winners on the tour this season include Jacob Nottestad at Rockford’s Spring Classic April 17th, Casey Johnson at Slinger Speedway April 25th and current points leader Jon Reynolds Jr. at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 4. Butchie Schramm finished second in the feature and continues to lurk behind Volm and Mitch Stankowski in the points with five top-5 feature finishes this season, including a win and a second over the last three races... Three drivers made their season debuts at SPS last week, including Dave Cabelka, a two-time feature winner last season who won the second heat but then was part of an incident in the feature that resulted in his car resting atop the backstretch wall... Mark Kalata made his first visit to State Park since 2017 and finished a solid third in the feature... Breitenfeldt received a stiff challenge from defending mini stocks champion Garret Strachota, though, as the two raced side-by-side for the final laps before Breitenfeldt hung on to win by a fender... Strachota has been the second to Breitenfeldt in many of those features, and he now has five second-place finishes this season... Chris Boykins continued to be one of the strongest cars in the class this season, setting fast time for the first time this season. Boykins also is the only driver besides Breitenfeldt to register a fea- ture win this season... Brandon Sischo was a double-winner last week, taking the second heat and also his first-ever semi-feature win... Brad Abt continues to improve in his first season and posted his Luke Mikula won the first heat for his first-ever race win in his first year in the class... Snap-On Mini Mods Pos. The three-time mini mods champion from 2016-18 also set fast time for the second straight week and is tied with Eric Breitenfeldt for the most overall race wins this season (six) at State Park Speedway... Chad Ferge finished second in the feature for his best-ever feature finish in the mini mods... Snappy Joe Kuehn finished third in the feature and continues to hang near Seliger in the standings with top-3 runs in all five features this year... The first Bandolero feature of the season went to Alex Hartwig, who went from 10th to first in four laps and rolled to the 12-lap feature win, his sixth straight in the class going back to last season. This week in State Park Speedway history: July 15th SPS July 21, 1977: Dick Trickle won the second feature and took the Winners overall points title to win the Mid-Season Championship at State Park Speedway. Trickle got by Larry Detjens on the 29th lap of the Auto Select Super Late Models Rockstar Energy Drink Mini second 30-lap feature and also finished second in the night’s first Fast Qualifier: 44-Justin Mondeik, Stocks feature, won by Tom Steuding of Altoona.
