The number of stations sold last year increased and dealmakers say the multiples paid for prime FM signals ticked higher by half a point by the time 2014 drew to a close. In the months to come, for the first time in several years the biggest hurdle for potential buyers may be too little inventory up for sale. “Certainly inventory is a big concern, and if the market slows down in 2015 it will because of inventory,” Patrick Communications managing partner Greg Guy says. “With the buyers who are out there, if there is not quality inventory, I don’t see them dipping down and buying lesser inventory just to buy.” Media Services Group managing director George Reed agrees inventory will be 2015’s biggest challenge. “There are buyers out there who have money and an appetite for deals and the challenge is going to be to find the kinds of deals that they Radio 2015: All this are looking for,” he says.     Fruits and Vegetable Programs Specialty Crop Block Grant Program Description of Funded Projects Fiscal Year 2006 The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) was authorized on December 21, 2004, by Section 101 of the Specialty Crops Competitiveness Act of 2004. The Act authorized the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide grants to states to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. The agency, commission, or department responsible for agriculture within the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are eligible to apply for grant funds directly to the USDA. Specialty crops are defined as “fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and nursery crops (including floriculture).” Fifty-two U.S. States and Territories were awarded Fiscal Year 2006 funds. All the elibigible states submitted their applications by the established deadline of October 11, 2007. The approved awards are listed alphabetically. Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Amount Funded: 108,926.78 Number of Projects: 3 • The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) partnered with Auburn University to identify, for the first time, the economic impact of Alabama’s fruit and vegetable crops on the Alabama economy. The study looked at the impact of total cash receipts on the Alabama economy, the dollar value of specialty crop exports, the indirect business tax impacts, and the number of jobs created by specialty crop production. Project staff sent a questionnaire to 3,000 subjects, resulting in various data collection including the average size of the fruit and vegetable farms, the major source of labor, and the type of specialty crops allocated for farm production among non-limited and limited resource farmers,.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack addressed USDA’s contingency plan for the “what if scenario” if the drought continues to linger. Mr. Vilsack responded to what he sees as his number one priority as the head of the Ag Department and what he can implement to give producers security. Vilsack was in Iowa with President Barack Obama talking about the drought. He also addressed producers and consumers during a Town Hall meeting. "Producers can greatly enhance the bottom line of their businesses and improve their economic prospects when they improve the value of their products, thus expanding their markets and customer base," said Vilsack. "The Value Added Producer Grant program (VAPG) has a proven track record of doing just that and I am pleased to announce that we are inviting producers to apply for these grants by the deadline. The funds in this program enable America's farmers, ranchers and rural business owners to find ways to expand their product offerings, revenue streams and create more economic opportunity by bringing additional value to what they already produce." The VAPG application deadline is October 15, 2012.

What began as a conversation in an out-of-the-way Italian restaurant one snowy night in New York in February 2014 between two chief executives came to fruition yesterday as the merger of Journal Communications and E.W. Scripps was completed. The deal has returned Scripps to radio for the first time since the 1980s. “This is a good opportunity to say we want to be in radio again,” CEO Rich Boehne tells Inside Radio. “We did the due diligence process and quickly came to love it and thought it would be a great part of the company.” Scripps’ radio unit will be managed by senior vice president of radio and television Brian Lawlor and VP of radio Steve Wexler, who previously oversaw the division for Journal. Scripps executives say they’re working to reeducate themselves on the radio business, but are already openly discussing the potential to expanding their portfolio. The Scripps map today shows television stations in five of the eight markets where it operates 34 radio stations. “We really like the idea of television and radio together in a market as we are trying to build a bigger voice for the community across platforms,” Lawlor says. The two-step merger also saw the newspapers owned by Journal and Scripps spun- off into the newly-created Journal Media Group. That includes the Journal Sentinel, which means Scripps’ radio-TV operation in Milwaukee will no longer butt up against the FCC’s newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership limits.

FINANCIAL REPORT Michelle Estay read the October 2012 financial report. Donnie Fisher brought to the Board’s attention that the $1,500 dedicated to the Louisiana State Fair is not showing up as being paid on the financial report. Mrs. Estay explained that sometimes the Board is billed late. A motion made by Donnie Fisher and second by Russell Creel to approve the October 2012 financial report. 1 Susie Sharkey asked Dr. Charles Hutchinson of the LSU AgCenter about the plans for Dairy Days next year. Dr. Hutchinson informed the Board that St. Helena and Tangipahoa Parishes will remain combined for next year and Washington Parish will remain separate. He said that the plan for Dairy Days will still be the same as what was done in previous years.
