24 www.kirkleescollege.ac.uk NEW PIONEER HIGHER SKILLS CENTRE Kirklees College opened the Pioneer Higher Skills Centre in November 2020. Dedicated to Higher Education and Higher Skills, this new learning facility continues to drive the improvement of education and increase the skills of local people.

Located in a Victorian Grade II Listed building in the heart of Dewsbury, this specialist centre will help you gain qualifications, work skills and enhance your career prospects.

The historic building has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility as part of a £14 million restoration project. The centre combines the perfect mix of modern facilities, whilst maintaining many original heritage features, to provide an ideal study environment.

If you are aged 19-23 and already have a level 3 qualification (e.g. A Levels) or are aged 24+, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund your level 3 or 4 course.

With lower course fees, our higher education offering provides an affordable and flexible alternative to university study. We are able to offer financial support to help with costs.

An apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to learn while you earn and provides you with a solid grounding in your chosen career. You will gain experience in a real working environment and be trained by industry professionals to gain the skills in demand by employers.

We have a range of apprenticeships available, available, including Business, Computing, Construction, Engineering, Marketing, AAT, Catering and Hospitality.

Whether you’re interested in studying digital skills, accessing higher education or enrolling on a vocational course, such as Photography, Plumbing or Childcare, we have industry specialists on hand to help you to navigate your new career path.

Whilst you won’t necessarily need formal training for some jobs, you will need experience in a new field and transferable skills to make an alternative career a viable option for you. We can help you identify the skills you already have and support you to develop new competences.

If you’re thinking of retraining or moving into a different industry, why not join us at our Employability Hub? By retraining, you can learn the most in-demand skills and access progression opportunities to make future employment more obtainable.

Employability Hub courses are available in Youth Work, Gym Instructor, Business Admin, Working in the care sector, Working in Schools, Business Start-Up (those wanting to be self employed). These courses are FREE for adults (19+) and will vary in length.
