Bus service arrangements for Fairlight - Level - Beach during road closure: update

Dear colleagues

Further to our email below, we understand that the ‘haunching’ works on Battery Hill should be completed tomorrow and the East Highways work moves on to the first of its many resurfacing phases from Monday (5 October). In general terms, the resurfacing will work westwards with the first phase which will be from the eastern extremity of the works area, just east of the Rosemary Lane junction with Pett Level Road, to just shy of the junction with Waites Lane and is scheduled for Monday.

The consequence of this will be that different bus arrangements need to be in place for Monday. The 901 shuttle service operated by Hams Travel will operate to a revised timetable for the day with journeys starting and terminating east of Fairlight. A separate service, the 902, will run from Fairlight Cove via Battery Hill and Fairlight Road to Ore. Passengers can transfer there to complete journeys to other points in /St Leonards and Rye. A morning and afternoon journey will extend to/from Rye specifically for young people from the Fairlight area attending Rye College. There will also be changes to services provided for pupils travelling between Fairlight and Bradshaw CEP School.

Certain issues remain to be resolved with the operators of the 901 and 902 shuttle services and we will write again with full details tomorrow. We will also be in contact with schools and writing to parents of pupils at Fairlight who are most affected by the changes on Monday.

From Tuesday onwards, the 901 shuttle service will be able to resume its current route and timetable as work moves back to Battery Hill.
