Starlights Fleets: 183, Boats: 8245 Originated 1911, Organized 1922 Volume 82, No.2 95 Years of Great Sailing March / April, 2006 IN THIS ISSUE: I would also like to see a renewed focus on making our Class Reports District Championships conform to a high level of Message from the Class President 1 competition. In the past, we have had some problems with Town Hall Meeting 1 very short races being sailed, and an attitude of “let’s get in races.” This is fine for a weekend event, but the District Regatta Reports Championship should be of a higher standard. The minimum Biscayne Trophy 2 course lengths prescribed in new rule 34 must be honored. Miami OCR 2-3 I think it is also very important to recognize when Zag Masters’ 4-5 conditions are not fair for sailing. For Silver and Blue events, South American Silver Star 5 we should not race in under 5 knots. This is the minimum that Bacardi Cup 6-7 I expect will be adopted for the 2008 Olympics. Regatta Schedule 8 The Class Management Committee and International Governing Committee met on March 11. Class financial PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE position remains strong, although we operated at slightly less by Bill Allen, International President than break even for 2005. Our 2006 budget again projects expenses to exceed income by about $15,000. Fortunately, we As the weather turns warmer here in the Northern have some money accumulated from past years that will allow Hemisphere, our thoughts turn to the 2006 sailing season. Our us to pursue new marketing initiatives for 2006.
