The Silver Jubilee Park The 25th anniversary of HM King Harald V and Queen Sonja’s ascension to the Norwegian throne is being celebrated this summer in the Royal Palace Park with a reading gazebo, a photo exhibition, DNT cabins and HM The King’s Guard performances. Reading gazebo In the gazebo in Dronningparken you can borrow books to read in the park. The gazebo will be open on Thursdays 11:00 – 17:00 from June 16 to September 29. Throughout the summer you can also pick up or leave a book in the jubilee park’s book lockers. DNT cabins The Norwegian Trekking Association has set up two cabins in the park; one of the traditional type from 1937 and a brand new one. The cabins will be in the park all summer, but are only staffed on Thursdays - Fridays from 15:00 – 19:00 and on Saturdays - Sundays from 13:00 – 17:00 between June 13 and September 4. Photo exhibition: Long Lines From June 13 you can see 32 photographs mounted on glass plates in several places in the Palace Park. They are placed exactly where they were taken 10-50-100 years ago, and show both festive and everyday life and historical events with royalty, politicians, park guests and workers in the park. MAJOR EVENTS/FESTIVALS Norwegian Wood, Sukkerbiten, until June 16 - 17 Norwegian Wood is an annual rock festival held in Oslo since 1992. Famous artists such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Roger Waters, Eric Clapton, Eagles and Lou Reed have all played at Norwegian Wood. Tickets still available June 17. Oslo Gay Pride’s aim is to make gay culture visible and contribute to increased acceptance and respect for the gay part of the capital’s diverse population. Click here for more information. With his band The HoneyTones he plays a fiery blend of blues, R’n’B, swamp rock and swinging New Orleans rhythms. This time, the orchestra will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla, Schostakovich, Musorgsky, Bruch, Khatsjaturjan and Ginastera. He is recognised for his work as a photographer and philanthropist which has earned him the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire, awarded by Queen Elisabeth. Address: Mariboes gate 2B How to get there: Buses 30/31/34/54, trams 11/12/13/17 to Brugata Photo: rockefeller.no THEATRE & SHOW Two Gentlemen of Verona, Akershus Festning, until June 19 Guest performance by the world-renowned theatre company from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, presents Shakespeare’s first comedy “Two Gentlemen of Verona” in the courtyard at Akershus Castle. Two Gentlemen of Verona is most likely written between 1589 and 1593, and is among Shakespeare’s earliest plays. The action is centered on the friendship between two young men from Verona, Proteus and Valentine. Through a fast-paced action of love, betrayal, jealousy, hatred and reconciliation, their friendship is put to the test. Outdoor theatre - dress according to the weather. The festival is conducted as a concert with competitions in three different age categories. The purpose of the Norwegian festival, is to find a competitor to represent Norway in the International Steinway Festival held each year during the first weekend of September in Hamburg, Germany. In the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg participants from all over the world will meet and hold a concert for 1800 people in Laeiszhalle.
